football tix

A question for current students: my daughter is almost certain she'll be at UP next year and is interested in buying season football tix. On the athletic dept. website, it gives the price, but then it says there are two levels of student season tickets depending on how many credits you've completed. What's the difference? Do students with more credits get better seats?

Also, how hard is it to get tix for one game (for hubby and I)?

Last year football tickets were sold to imcoming freshman at FTCAP day in the hub. We took advantage and bought son season tickets and 5 tickets to one non conference game for the family. Son got his tx. and we got great seats at the Youngstown game (10 rows up in the end zone)

Tickets depend on what year you are. Seniors getting the best seats. However there is a whole science to the "where do I end up sitting thing" that the kids get pretty quickly. All seats are great seats. Honestly.

That said. Buy tickets ASAP as last year they ran out of tickets very quickly and left many unhappy students. Tickets for non conference home games were available for a long time for non students.

I read somewhere (in the collegian?) that they are not selling them at FTCAP this upcoming year - because it was real frustrating that more freshman than seniors got them last year. Do not know if that is true so look for them at FTCAP just in case.
Anyway, they send a letter or email when they are available - was in April two years ago and in June last year. The first sale is to students, then to alumni and then it opens to the public. Yes you have to move fast, last year they sold out of student tickets in two weeks.
Yes the number of credits you have determines the seating section you are in. Doesn't matter much for freshman because you would never have enough AP credits to get into an upper section and anyway you would want to sit with your friends.

Hey SpringfieldMom, they are playing Temple at the Linc on Nov 10. That's right in your back yard and you probably could get tickets easily through Temple. Should be a lot of PSU fans there for that one. Tickets for out of conference games against Florida International (9/1) and Buffalo (9/15) in Happy Valley should be relatively easy to come by. A lot of time, visiting schools will turn their unused allotment in and PSU will sell them to the public. Check the PSU web site as the time gets closer: http://www.gopsusports.com/Football/home.cfm Also, if you want to talk Penn State football, I've found this web site interesting: http://bwi.rivals.com/ especially the BWI/McAndrew message boards.

Thanks for the suggestion, GDad, but seeing a Penn State game at Lincoln Financial field isn't the same as seeing one in Happy Valley ("been there, done that"). But I think a non-conference game is more our speed than a Big 10 game; we will consider it.

Also thanks for the links, they're very helpful.

SM- We went to the Temple game at Beaver Stadium last year. Set up a tailgate with other parents and had our kids come by (no beer though!)
You may know that PSU won 47-0. It was great to experience the stadium (and all the touchdowns) but my husband said he would never want to go to a non-conference game again.
ND and Ohio State are out of the question for next year but we did see reasonably priced tickets for Wis on websites like stubhub.
We're hoping to do it in one day since it's virtually impossible to get an overnight hotel in SC - even for a non-conf game. Most require two night stays and charge upwards of $300 per night. We stayed in Milesburg - an awful half hour drive on a foggy isolated road. And it was still expensive - even out there. It was filled with PSU fans though!

TR; we will also spend just the day in SC for a game; I'd never try and get a room for a home game weekend either. We have relatives near Harrisburg, so we might just stay there or drive the 3 1/2 hrs. to SC and back home. I can't stand how the hotels jack up their prices and I refuse to pay them!

I will again toss out my suggestion of checking into local B&Bs. (I am actually getting four Notre Dame tickets from one of my regular guests at face price because, in her words, we don't "scalp" the room rates. ;))

TR - The Best Western in Lock Haven usually has rooms at a fair price if booking early. About 40 minutes from SC. I know there will be at least 1 room available since Son did not get accepted to UP I will be headed to (GULP) Pitt games!!!

WD. Thanks for the tip. We're only 3 hours away so we'll probably try to do it in one day. Pitt FB sounds fun too - and at least they have a decent basketball team too (although I couldn't believe the run PSU has in the second half against OSU - too bad they didn't win!). So now it's 10 in a row... : (
Good luck to you...
