I know IU basketball will be great again with three five star recruits coming in soon, but what about football? They went 5-7 this year, and beat an injured Purdue team for the Bucket. A new coach is also in, and that should help alot.

Thanks

Football is getting better, we went 5-7 but were close to 7-5 since we almost beat Michigan and we should’ve beat Iowa (our WR dropped the winning TD). My friend said his high school quarterback is coming here and said he’s really good and my friend thinks he’ll start next year. So if he’s good enough to (potentially) start next year, he’ll only get better from there. I don’t know about any other recruits though.

Indiana hasn’t won a Big Ten championship in football since 1967 and has only won two conference championships ever. They usually fight to stay out of the Big Ten basement. I wouldn’t expect a sudden change.

Also, be prepared for major apathy toward the football team in general. People look forward to tailgating, not the actual game itself. IU tailgates are absolutely crazy and unlike anything you’ve ever seen, but once it’s all over, most people don’t even go to the game.

Obviously there is a fair amount of fans that actually do attend every single game. But even at actual games themselves, I’ve noticed that the spirit level isn’t too high. When we played Iowa, their fan section was WAY louder than us, and there were clearly a lot less of them than IU fans.

So yeah, most students in general are pretty apathetic toward IU football because they’ve come to expect the same bottom-of-the-Big 10 finish every season. A new coach was just hired last week, so we’ll see where that takes the program. But I guess the moral of this all is to not expect super-crazy fans and fun at Saturdays on Memorial Stadium, cause when it comes to football at IU, there’s really nothing to get too excited about. And no one really cares when we lose, anyway.

This season was painful with the single interconference victory and the #11 rank in the conference, even below Minnesota who only advanced because they fluked Iowa giving them a reputable conference victory and otherwise sucked the entire season. We beat… Purdue… wow.

But we can honestly only get better, and getting Lynch replaced was the first step. Kevin Wilson has good defensive line tactics and he lead OU to a conference title.

And the funding for IU football is the lowest in the Big Ten and for those reasons the overall fandomand support, well, isn’t there. All IU football games are is an excuse to get wasted in public. The tailgates are fun as hell though.
