Football

So Long Beach State wants to bring back football. Are there any CPP students willing to take up this fight? CPP has a lot of potential and should think about reinstating football - especially if LBSU decides to. We could have a great rivalry with SLO and LBSU.

Cal Poly Pomona should first launch an exploratory commission to look at the possibility of upgrading their Division II athletics to Division I in hopes of joining the Big West Conference. Natural rivals in the Big West include local schools such as Fullerton, Long Beach, Riverside, and of course with Cal Poly SLO.

Good point. With the new fund raising campaign just launched (which includes upgrades for athletics), it seems like a good opportunity to explore a Big West membership. Coming off a national championship in Men’s Basketball would seem to provide some momentum to upgrade to D-1.

That assumes, of course, that the Big West would be interested. There is currently a balance of 4-CSU’s and 4-UC’s in the league with Pacific and Hawaii. CPP surely fits the academic profile of the league. I would absolutely love for CPP to make the jump to the Big West. Who knows, if CPP, LBSU, and Fullerton reinstated football the Big West might reinstate football.

Cal Poly Pomona wouldn’t want to end up like Cal State Bakersfield… a Div. I team with no conference. In the future I see both UC San Diego and Cal Poly Pomona being added to the Big West.

I doubt that CPP would end up like Bakersfield. I know that is a fear but I just don’t see it. The Cal Poly ‘brand’ is so much stronger than Bakersfield. CPP is located in a bigger market and has stronger academics.

Hell, Bakersfield has been mentioned as a non-football member of the WAC. I would assume that CPP would at least get a look from a conference (Big Sky or Big West) if they decided to go D-1.

CSUB in the WAC!

Oh WAC, what has happened to you? :(

what happened was Fresno and Nevada stabbed the league in the back after agreeing not to leave.

Now the Western Athletic Conference is the “Western” Athletic Conference centered in Texas.
