Football

No no, send a highlight film. My coach has been dealing with recruiting for 25 years and has coached many D1 (and all american) players. You send highlight film because a coach doesn't have time to sit through a two hour film on each player...

BTW, can you post height/weight athletic awards? I might be able to help you more then.

And I'm guessing you're from Everett, and the Globe Player of the Year is Frank Nuzzo. Everett is pretty much the beast of Massachusetts high school football around here, although they did lose in the Super Bowl to Brockton.

Nope, Mansfield. . .we won the DIII Super Bowl these past two years (over Swampscott and Walpole) and I honestly think we would've beaten Everett and given Acton-Boxboro a run for their money. Next year our first game is against A-B, but our junior class isn't the greatest, so I'm glad I'll be gone :p. The DIII Globe Player of the Year was Tom Creeden.

Nuzzo ended up at Brown, I believe, with his older brother who is a running back there.

And my best friend, and fullback on the football team, wrestled Rollie back when he was a freshman. . .one of his only losses in his four year career.

That certainly makes sense ... the reason I read for showing a complete series was to see how you play on all plays ... think Randy Moss ... the highlight reel would be unbelievable ... the complete series would show the unbelieveable talent as well as his lack of blocking and that he takes plays off. Maybe each coach has different preferences.

I'm kind of in the same boat as you wraider. I'm really only considering playing at Tufts though, just because I doubt I'd be happy as a student at any of the other NESCAC schools (I want city-access and a school bigger than my high school). I do have the grades and stuff to get into those schools without football, but I too am hoping that it might give me a little boost.

If you get in without football, you can still try out and make the team. That is pretty common.

What is your position/size?

Oh, also - definitely send out tapes to colleges you are interested in. Attach an unofficial transcript with it, and be sure to fill out the online questionnaires. If you are visiting a school, try and set up an interview with the coach. I would start with a highlight tape and only send a game tape if they request one.

The general rule is, if they request gametape, send it then.

Like the poster before me mentioned, if you could provide height/weight and athletic awards I think I could help you out even more.

wraider, with the stats you mentioned (1500 SAT [800 V; 700M), my son was a recruit at Wesleyan and accepted RD last year, although he ediced to go elsewhere. He has good game tape, not a highlight reel as that is not what the Wes. coach wanted, and great recs. from his coaches, all had significant NFL experience and are well know in coaching circles.

So, if you are a player that the coaches see in their program, I would say that football will be a significant hook for you. Just mind the caution that Jamimom mentioned because not all coaches have the same pull, and not all coaches will rank you as high on their list based upon things such a player/position need, or other recruits at the same position.

I'm 6'1, 190lbs and I play guard/defensive end. That might be pretty small for my position, but I don't know, at my school they sort of have a tradition of small linemen since we run deception, counters, trick plays, reverses a lot and the guard is usually pulling on every play. 2 years ago our starting guards/cocaptain were 6'0 180lbs and 5'8 165lbs and we were 7-4 that year.

Well, if the coach doesn't show interest it won't be the end of the world. I'm aiming for 2300+ on the New SATs this March and May and all A's in school, so if I get in, I'll just try out and make the team that way. I'll ask some of my teammates about it later. One of them is getting recruited DI at Nebraska or another big school.

BTW, Ecliptica, you must have played Walpole then for the Super Bowl. Hope you put a hurtin' on Cuqua.:)

You're pretty decent sized wraider and besides, I think D3 places more of an emphasis on skill that perfect size. Obviously they may want you to bulk up some, but your height is fine.

What is Cuqua's first name? Sounds familiar. I went to the BC Camp last year, so I'm actually familiar with these players/schools despite being from CT. Nuzzo (the QB) is disgusting.

Yeah skill is def. the most important thing to d3 schools. D1 and 2 basically just want stats. They will make the player from the mold.

I believe it's Alex Cuqua. That kid is the best quarterback I think we've ever played since Lofa Tatupu (the linebacker at USC) was a QB for King Philip my freshman year. Cuqua will be going on a full ride DI somewhere. . .he's only a junior.

You need a full game film and a highlight film.
