Ok, I'm doing my extended essay on something about english, maybe mixed with something about history, but i cannot think of a good topic! does anyone have any ideas???? Please help!

I had a friend who did something about the rise of pop culture...but she did it solely for history

that actually sounds pretty cool, maybe i can narrow that down. thanks!

Originally, I also had wanted to incorporate elements of history with english, or rather literature, for my extended essay. I intended to analyze Orwell's Animal Farm with the Russian Revolution, but my teachers advised me against it. Now I'm doing a purely history research on Nixon.

i'm gonna do mine on artificial intelligence, but i've now realized that i shoulda done it on something easy, like history or art.

artificial intelligence? for what class? ( computer science?)

I hate how you can't do interdisciplincary stuff.

I'm doing mine on economics, trying to analyze the effect of soda ban on my school cafeteria. I thought it was cool... until I had to write email and call my school district food service for the sales data. I'm telling you, they are laaazy people. Hopefully they'll pull the data out soon...

^ Awesome, econ is great. I wanted to do mine on econ, on the effect that CAFTA would have on my country's banana production, but I changed to spanish basically because its easier and my econ teacher, although amazing, is not really advisor material.

yeah i agree... my advisor is a math teacher. we only have 1 econ teacher at my school lol how do you do an extended essay on a language?

btw megaman, i see you around a lot lately lol i'm usually bad with names but i already remembered yours! haha yay for me :)

We're the same, only one econ teacher, the guy is absolutely brilliant but he doesn't have much patience. We were talking one day about the EE in his class and he was like " don't expect me to help you too much, you'll have to take initiative..and btw if I don't like the way you're doing things I'll tell you and you can either re-write it or get yourselves another advisor" hahah so I decided I wouldn't want to try my luck with his temper.

For my EE in spanish, its my native language, I'm going to compare two different dramas and analyze how two different playwrights(is that even the correct word?lol) use the dynamics between realist and romantic characters to create a conflict.

Yay, you remembered my name lol. I'm on vacations, with nothing to do, so that explains why I've been around more.

ok, i think i have it narrowed down between 2 possible topics:

Research the history of witchcraft in the US and analyze how this history effected the views on the Harry Potter books.

OR

Analyze the significance of the titles of a feww books like My Sister's Keeper, The Great Gatsby, Like Water for Chocolate, etc.

Do you guys have any opinion about which one i should do???

Oh, I i don't have IB econ at my school, but it sounds great! What other IB electives do you have???

The first one sounds very very cool, the second one eh..not so much. Personally I would think the first topic would be more entertaining and interesting to research and write about.

Actually I don't take econ as an elective, I chose it as my social science, that way I did'nt have to take history..which I suck at.

oh wow! thats pretty cool! i hate history too . . . but i had to take HOA last year . . . and Topics this year! ugg

Wow, literature.... not my type of an essay. If I was in IB I probably would've researched the diffusion and evolution of the crossbow and its impact on warfare, or a comparison of the Roman and Han armies and the different paths they had on the future of native militaries. In your case though, I would do the Witchcraft/Harry Potter thing. Much more unique.

I like your first topic much better. The second one isn't bad for a World Lit paper, but it's not really appropriate for an Extended Essay. Just remember- the key to getting a good grade on the EE is incorporating things you've learned (this includes TOK and the ways of knowing). Good luck- I hated doing my EE.

yeah i agree with rest of the people here. the first one is waaaay cooler, especially when you have to write 4,000 words... lol

my school's really small, so we almost all follow the same curriculum except for math and science classes. the high school i attended in florida had IB Psychology! i would have taken it for sure if i was still there.

i was wondering my friend told me there's an IB Cooking course. is it true?? if so, like, what do you do? lol

wow! IB cooking sounds awesome! ok, i guess I'll go with the 1st one. thanks for all the input!

i dont even really have a mentor for artificial intelligence. the best that i could get was my TOK teacher. I'm just doing cause it sounds interesting.

My favorite IB course that isn't available at my school is music. I love music. I've been playing electric guitar for 6-7 yrs and classical guitar for about 2, and I'm a DJ. Unfortuantely nobody has ever tried to start music IB at my school, and now its way to late for me....buhu

We have music and psyc but not econ. Does anyone know if you can write on a topic that your school does not offer a class for like econ.
