For all of us who get criticized for taking the SAT multiple times

Yee I took it once!
But I seriously doubt taking it multiple times reflects badly, unless it’s like 4+ times. Then colleges start wondering why.

The two from middle school don’t show up on my collegeboard account, so when I apply they will only see 3 (one in 10,11,12). But I can choose to send certain test dates, right?

Some schools require you to send all scores, but I’m not sure which. And yeah, the ones from middle school and maybe even the 10th grade one won’t show up.

Why not the tenth grade?
I had to have CB send an official report to MIT in January and both showed up (and I clearly asked for only 11th grade)

I agree with you. I took the Sat four times (including my 8th grade scores).
I took the ACT once and realized that I was terrible at it. I took three Sat 2s and retook one of them again (making four).

And i ended up with a 2250 SAT composite, and a 730 Biology,760 Us history score. I am pretty happy. I retook all my tests because I needed to and I know if I didn’t try my hardest I would regret it latter and this week Johns Hopkins gave me a likely  and I sincerely believe that I would never have gotten it if my math score was 590  like it used to be.

However, I am acutely aware of my privilege, without my parent’s money-- none of this would be possible.

Wow congrats on the likely! And yeah, my mom is kicking out a lot for these tests, visits, and soon, applications. But I repay her, so it’s not so bad. But still. Big ups to mom
Your score is where I want to be-and I feel like I’ll do terrible on the ACT in April
Subject tests? Shoot me

I took the ACT twice and SAT once. My composite went up only two points, but I got into all if my schools, so I’m satisfied.

I took the SAT once in March, got a 2120, which I was pretty happy about. But, my dad wanted me to get it up just a tiny bit more, so I retook it. Didn’t study from March to October, and went up 130 points :stuck_out_tongue: Even funnier, went down 20 points in math XD

Anyway, I can’t say that my higher SAT score helped me get into my ED school, since stats are pretty low on their reqs (they like to see well-written, passionate essays most), but it was still nice to see my score go up so high without studying. Just from the experience of having taken it once.

Took two SAT IIs once, only studying for a couple hours for Math II (not my best subject, but eh). 680 on that, and 800 on French w/listening (favorite subject XD). No time to retake, but I wouldn’t have anyway.

Hmm, never would have guessed. :)

Shut it :stuck_out_tongue: I only espouse my love every OTHER post.

I was referring to your name, actually.

To the OP, what did you get when you took it in 8th grade and then how much did it improve? Just wondering how many points people gained from 8th grade to 11th grade.

This is the first time I took it since then, so hopefully it improves a lot.

It doesn’t ruin your weekend, but it made doing anything on Friday not really an option, which sucked.

Hokie:

7th-1440
8th-1550
10th-1880
11-1940
12- 2100+ :)

MIT only wants to see the best grade for each subject, so Hypothetically I could get 1200 on 3 Different SAT’s, and send in a 2400 to MIT, :D

Actually, you would send them three 1200s and rely on them to add up each of the 800s.

Or you could save $100 and just get a 2400 to start with.

CPUscientist3000, judging from your test scores (and apparent dislike for standardized testing), it’s safe to say that you’re not the best test-taker. However, your persistence is probably good, and I wish you the best for your upcoming SAT.

Just wondering, are the people who bother you about the multiple testings considered smart at your school? Or are they more middle of the pack? If the former, I think they’re criticisms aren’t misguided. They might have scored highly on their first tries, so they feel cheated that you/anyone would take the test multiple times and improve their scores. If I were in their shoes, I’d be miffed as well. Say, I got a 2240 first try, and you continue to re-take it. I’d feel that colleges aren’t viewing an accurate representation of your scholastic aptitude; instead, the product of multiple test dates and preparatory hours. If the latter (less than bright folk), they’re just jealous of your dedication to achieving a good score (and the resulting benefits). ;)

The “smart” kids. But even they have taken it multiple times but are satisfied with their 1900s. They don’t care where they go to school.

So its the latter group :P. Which make sense, because I doubt many of the smart kids would criticize someone like CPU, even if they disliked the fact that many raise their scores with multiple retakes.

In that case, good on you for going for it. Have you been studying with Silverturtle’s Guide and the Blue Book? I recommend taking all the BB tests and thoroughly looking over the answers & what you did wrong. I took it without studying in Jan and got a 2060, but my scores in the BB indicate a future 2240+. It really helps.
