i also got a 700 on math 2 and 750 on physics but i dont know if i should send because they dont require them. does it help you if you have good scores or do they just ignore them?

Personal statements: (i kind of integrated the 4 topics below into my essay)

when i was a freshman my parents got in an accident and i had to start taking care of my whole family. what i mean is that my chores got tripled, i needed to help my parents move through the house, and i had to walk my bro to school before i went. My school and his school are in 2 opposte directions.

i also wrote about how the envioronment i grew up in has shaped me to be a strong perservering leader and how people see me as a leader not because of my large frame ( i am 6'4) but because of the attidude i have when i am in the room.

how my parents accident coupled with my volunteering at the hospital has changed my outlook on life and how i found my true calling which is medicine because God has blessed me with intelligence and lots of empathy towards the needy and weak.

i also included in my essay a great quote from one of a famous surgeon (i am drawing a blank on his name right now) but it said " i was never the smartest in med school, but what i lacked in ability i made up with through discipline." i think this quote really applies to me and i explained why.

your credentials are solid. did you apply for fall or spring? If fall, you should have heard by now. You have a good shot. Don’t worry and just relax! There is nothing more that can be done but to wait. Hope it works out!

I would be shocked if you didn’t get into USC.

Send the subject test scores, they help your app, they just aren’t required.

I’m confused, are you applying for Fall 2010? It sounds like you are a high school senior, but if you haven’t sent your subject test scores, then unless you use them for an appeal, you are too late.

you guys i am a junior its just for my english 3AP class we also write personal statements so i almost have mine done.

im asking you guys to chance me because everyone i know says you are great in everything except your UW gpa is low and that is what USC looks at. i think their average is a 3.7 and i only have a 3.5

I got in with a 3.5 GPA, so your GPA isn’t everything. I’d say you have some pretty solid stats, just try to boost your GPA up this term if possible.

alamemom: thanks for your post. but i already looked at all the threads you listed. i under stand that it is a top school and that it only has a 25% acceptance rate. that is the reason why i am asking for people’s opinion’s. i have the middle UC’s as matches. i only ask for schools that i know wont accept me easily

arctic: there is no mathemtical chance that me gpa will crack the 3.6 barrier

Everything looks good but the one thing I learned meeting with an admissions officer is that they only want 3 letters of rec. that’s all they are going to read. If you get 6 letters of rec. “we understand that you are loved, but it is a little too much” his words more or less

^^^^^ ok then ill just not send any of my counselors letters.

i know that my gpa is a little under average and that is why i am not confident that im getting accepted. so in the end how much can my great SAT make up for my gpa?

There are no secret formulas. Kids with GREAT stats do not get in and kids with lower stats do. It is all about the application as a whole. I do think the essays tell the whole picture. What do you have to add to the mix of the incoming class? There are a ton of kids with great SAT and 4.0 GPA but you need to demonstrate passion in a particular area. Recommendations: 1 counselor and 2 teachers. The ortho…not sure it is relevant unless you are going in to dentistry. Being Pres. of NHS is good. Good luck.

as of right now ill follow momhere’s advice and get one from 2 teachers and 1 counselor. my idea behind an ortho letter was to show my commitment to healthcare.

Your scores, grades, extracurriculars etc. are solid; don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. In light of your circumstances, they are truly extraordinary.

I’m a high school senior who got into USC’s Bacc/MD and got the Trustee scholarship, so I’m very familiar with the application process. PM me with any questions you have. I’ll be more than glad to help you with anything you need and talk/meet with you if you want.
