Essay: HAD TWO INCREDIBLE ESSAYS. FIRST WAS ABOUT HOW HARD MY LIFE WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL AND HOW IT AFFECTED MY GRADES. I TALKED ABOUT HOW COLLEGE WAS A WAY OF TAKING BACK MY LIFE AND NOT LETTING ANYTHING OR ANYONE STOP ME. SECOND WAS CALLED "THE RACIST KISS".

Teacher rec's: HAD ABOUT THREE LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION AND THEY ALL WERE BRILLIANT AND MADE ME LOOK REALLY GOOD.

General Comments: SO EXCITED I CAN'T EVEN KNOW WHAT TO SAY. I FEEL SO BLESSED TO BE ACCEPTED IN SUCH A GREAT SCHOOL.

Don't be upset if you feel that your stats are too low, just apply and show admissions that you are sooooo motivated to attend their school. I wrote TWO essays and had three teachers write rec's for me. I don't know anyone in Michigan and both parents went to college so I'm not first generation. I just wanna convince people with low stats to keep their heads up and put yourself out there. And mostly, don't be afraid to hold anything back. I'm so excited about my acceptance and hope that I give other people with low stats to start applying, cause you never know what could happen. YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY LOL

rodney, coolbreeze is right. I’m OOS and my parents are paying a lot of money. A LOT of money. But Michigan State wasn’t the only college I was accepted to…

^
I don’t want to ruin OP’s thread, but why did you choose MSU over the rest? Was it their residential colleges or just wanted to live a distance from home?

Many factors influenced my decision. Since I am prevet med, the Honors College is allowing me to apply my junior year to vet school in a small applicant pool. Also, one of my close friends lives in Michigan and I wanted to be closer. I am also on the Honors College scholarship so I’m not paying as much as other OOS. My other choice was Virginia Tech, and George Mason (idk why I applied there…). I visited all three, and MSU won me over. =]

Why did you take the ASVAB? Were you thinking of joining the military at some point? Or is it typical to take this in other parts of the country?

Also, if you scored the highest in your class, why is your SAT so relatively low?

romani- isn’t asvab more of a technical/tactile test? Also, I’m certain that the test, and all other military instruction/testing, is geared at a 6th grade reading level.

I don’t know ps, that’s why I was asking. Here, people only take it if they want to go into the military, and I don’t know anyone who’s taken it so I don’t know anything about it.

Okay, first off, ASVAB isn’t geared toward 6th graders. Why would they give people a test if it’s geared toward sixth graders?!?!? You wouldn’t want people who scored low on that test defending our country. Might end up bombing themselves or something. And next, I have a full scholarship to ANY school of my choice because I passed the ASVAB, but I’d have to join to army of military, whichever one they said HA!

It’s a test they give to our school every year and they really encourage seniors to take it. So I did, wasn’t thinking about going into the army or military, just wanted to see what I would make.

I never said the test was geared to a sixth grade level, I said it was geared to a sixth grade READING level. Military instructions/tests are geared to a lower level because a soldier needs to be able to comprehend material quickly under a high level of stress. Also, my father was in the military for 21 years and both my sister and brother-in-law are serving overseas in the war in Afghanistan, so how dare you say that they ‘might bomb themselves’. Extremely rude and insensitive comment.
Joining the military is a big deal so don’t joke about it. Are you prepared to die for your country? Joining an ROTC program for the wrong reasons is a VERY big mistake.

I’m with ps here. I lost my brother in law in Iraq (RIP Justin) and I come from a military family. The notion that any military member might bomb themselves or be dumb or anything along those lines is completely disrespectful and uncalled for.

Just so you know, the VAST majority of people that have fought and died for this country in the past (WWII and before) didn’t have much education and yet they seem to have done just fine. The military does a wonderful job training our soldiers.

I’m done here or I will get overly emotional and probably say something (that while I will MEAN to say it) will regret.

FIRST OFF I NEVER SAID THEY WOULD BOMB THEMSELVES, AND SECONDLY I AIN’T JOKING ABOUT IT. Okay, so you’ve got family overseas and family whose been in the military. ME TOO. And thirdly, how dare you sit at your computer and ass-ume that I am joining the ROTC program for the scholarship. HELLO, that was over 2-years ago. I’m not planning on joining because my family doesn’t think that’s a good idea, even my uncle that was in the army. I’m not THAT crazy about money and scholarships if it’s not my kind of thing. I took the test because a teacher requested that I do so, why, I don’t know. I didn’t mean to come off as extremely rude and insensitive but I have a VERY different outlook on life that sometimes makes me come off that way, and I am extremely sorry if I offended anyone. By the way, I’m not saying your father wasn’t in the military, I believe you. But what did you ask romani if it was geared toward 6th reading level, and then your post answers your own question??? did you do research on it and find the answer yourself?

if you mean to say it you won’t regret it. I don’t in ANY way believe those people are dumb, and you couldn’t convince me otherwise. I TOOK the test so I know EXACTLY how it runs, the kinds of questions they ask and things like that. I’m sorry to hear about your brother and don’t mean to disrespectful. I am sorry.

If you read all of my message, I CLEARLY said that I didn’t believe those people were dumb, and that’s why I made that remark. I don’t think you can even join the military if you score too low on that test, but I’m not sure. I’d have to inquire about that.
