Which dorms are the best? Is the food good over at Davis? Does it really smell like cows? Is it boring over there?—Questions from a curious student ^^ I wanna know…I might be attending Davis in a year or so

Rienda is the best dorm in Regan! The food is better then I hoped, but our DC is crowded with damn Tercero people...there are like...two other DCs you know...

Don't be bitter Carlos, just because you got the worst dorm doesn't mean you should be spreading misinformation to the freshmen juniors ;).

Now, in reality, the new Segundos are the best followed closely by the new Terceros. The food is pretty good here but like any dorm food it gets boring after a while. About the cow smell, you smell it for approximately 2 seconds after going outside and then it dissipates.

Its not boring here at all, somethings always going on. What do you expect when you pack 30,000 students into a small town? Boring is nothing..

Have you found everyone as smart and interesting as you expected?

Well, it wasn't so much expected for me as hoped. I've met some cool people who are pretty chill and have similar interests as me but I can't say I've met too many people at the intelligence level I hoped I'd meet so far. Theres still four years more to go for that tho, so we'll see..

I'll chime in.

Dorms: In terms of space, Thoreau definitely. Four bed, 2 bath, one living room, nine people. Sounds like a lot but its working well so far. A little bit off campus, but not that bad at all. In terms of looking at, definitely the new Segundo and Tercero dorms.

Food: Segundo DC is good, other DC's are good too. The only one I really hate is the Castilian DC. Yuck. Downtown there's a lot of places to eat. Its very culturally diverse.

Smell: Cow smell is over exaggerated. I've only really smelled it once.

Boringness: Not boring at all. There's always something going on. Frat parties, ARC, student orgs, IM's, Chappelle was recently here, uhh Martin Yan just gave a speech, Steve Robinson. I'm never bored when I have free time. But free time is scarce with homework and all.

Ahem

.............

If you are close enough, you might want to attend Preview Day next Saturday, October 22.
Here is a link: http://admissions.ucdavis.edu/visitus/previewday.cfm
There are discussions scheduled for prospective freshmen, transfers, various majors, etc, along with campus tours. It might give you a good idea of what you're in for, as well as a look at the type of student who is interested....

-New segundo dorms are the best
-Food is pretty good. There's a lot of variety
-The cow smell can be kinda gross, but it's mainly only in tercero. and if you live there, i hear you get used to it...
-It does get kind of boring here on the weekends but then again i don't drink or party so that might be why

I still say Regan...

Which dorms are the best? - They've built some new dorms since I was a freshman, but I'll say the newer the better.
Is the food good over at Davis? Bleh, DC food, it was ok at first but by the end of freshman year I was so sick of it that I cooked my own food in the mini kitchenette in my dorm. Luckily, there are TONS of places to eat in the downtown area. I've only been to a handful of them, but haven't been to a bad one yet.

Does it really smell like cows? Only at night & in the early morning near tercero - it lingers longer when it's cold outside. If you live in tercero, just keep the windows & doors closed when you sleep & you shouldn't notice it.

Is it boring over there? If you want excitement, you should probably pick another school. Davis is pretty laid back, and there isn't a ton to do - especially if you're not the drunken party type. And as a freshmen, you'll have to become friends with someone with a car if you're going to want to travel outside of Davis looking for a good time or to even go shopping.

You don't really need a car. I just found out a couple days ago that there are busses to downtown Sac, Woodland, and the Amtrak takes you to other places.

I knew about the busses, but you meet some weird, creepy (and sometimes intoxicated) people on the county buses (I know, I've ridden them).. plus they take WAY longer than driving.

co-ops?

How are the people like who live in the co-ops? Major, smelly hippies or what? that actually soudns like a cool living arrangmetn to me.. unless everyone is a dirty, smelly, pot-smokign hippy..... lol
