For all you Gauchos...

Prepare to get spanked next year by Cal Poly in soccer, baseball, basketball, making money In Pictures: Top Public Colleges For Getting Rich - Forbes.com , in location San Luis Obispo, Calif.: Best Places to Live - USNews.com , in acceptance rate <a href="http://collegesearch.collegeboard.com/search/CollegeDetail.jsp?collegeId=4217&type=qfs&skey=cal%20poly%5B/url%5D">http://collegesearch.collegeboard.com/search/CollegeDetail.jsp?collegeId=4217&type=qfs&skey=cal%20poly</a> , and in pretty much everything else.

Cal Poly>UCSB

:)

LOL bro
but on the other hand
did your friend get the C for SLO ?
i got the C in bio :D

So we’re trust Forbes, the people who put Johns Hopkins at like 150+ for top schools? And if we’re going off admissions rate, I guess SDSU beats both AND UCSD and Irvine with its 31% admission.

Oh and, no place is prettier than UCSB. :)

I hope you guys are having fun down in SLO:

[Mardi Gras San Luis Obispo](http://www.mardigrasslo.com/)

Oh wait, never mind. For some reason the PD here didn’t have to resort to draconian measures to crush student fun, instead worked to make it safe.

Amby262roy- Ya he ended up getting a B in the class ha. Good job getting a c.

DrAhumuda- Can’t understand what your trying to write… But with all the international students in the UC system, im surprised anyone can write in rudimentary english. UCSB is located in Isla Vista, Goleta… Not a very pretty place. Most likely you will be living in a student ghetto for the next 4-5 years. Cool lol. Also Santa Barbara is literally on fire for months of the year…

If UCSB graduates are so respected, why are Cal Poly and even San Jose State grads making a higher salary after college?

Rc251- Haha, you have no idea about how ruthless the Police can be in Isla Vista… Have fun paying for all your MIP’s next year. Also you wouldn’t know what the partying is like at Cal Poly… I have personally experienced both, and would rather party at San Luis Obispo anyday.

I’m a UCSB alum  I also haven’t been a minor in over 3 years now  I’ve lived in Isla Vista and I know all about the IVFP. They are fairly lenient on students, and instead of shutting down social events, they made them safer, such as working with Isla Vista to move cars off Del Playa during Halloween and installing floodlights to increase visibility. Meanwhile, SLO PD has crushed with an iron fist La Fiesta, Poly Royal, Mardi Gras, and Poly Gras over the years.

*Not a very pretty place. Most likely you will be living in a student ghetto for the next 4-5 years. *

The Pardall Streetscape Project and the El Colegio widening have made Isla Vista look a lot better. Also, the fact that Isla Vista is a student ghetto is precisely what makes it so great. When else do you have a chance in your life to live within one mile of all of your friends and 20,000 people your age? You have late night restaurants, access to parties, a movie theater, rock climbing wall, etc, all within easy walking distance of each other. You have the rest of your life to live in a boring neighborhood, which is why the dynamic community is so awesome!

By the way, the rivalry with Cal Poly is all in good fun and I’m glad this topic was made  See here for example:

[Rivals From Cal Poly Graffiti UCSB - Daily Nexus](http://www.dailynexus.com/article.php?a=15534)

Despite this, UCSB and Cal Poly have a lot of collaboration going on. For example, they’re both working together on Engineering projects:

[Cal Poly and UCSB Begin New Center for Collaborative Engineering Research and Education - Cal Poly](http://ceng.calpoly.edu/news/cal-poly-and-ucsb-begin-new-center-collaborative-e/)

Also, Cal Poly students have actually been designing blueprints for the rebuilding of the UCSB Campus mall:

[Campus Design and Facilities](http://facilities.ucsb.edu/planning/campus_plan/tower_mall/default.asp)

And of course, Cal Poly-UCSB is the biggest college soccer rivalry in the country.

Bestindawest: All my English was grammatically correct, smart one. I find it incredibly ironic that in the statement where you try to bash MY english, you used the incorrect “you’re”. Bravo. I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if both my SAT Critical Reading scores and Writing scores were higher than yours. And to completely thrash every point you’ve made…

1) My original point about the acceptance rates was that a lower acceptance rate does not correlate to a better school. Like I said, San Diego State has a lower acceptance rate than UC San Diego, but which honestly is a better school? State schools tend to receive worse applicants more often, which will pull down their acceptance rates.

2) Even if your statement about there being too many internationals in the UC system WAS true (which it isn’t), many international students have received a much better education than here. The US has a relatively poor education system compared to many other countries.

3) If IV is a ghetto, then I want to live in a ghetto the rest of my life.

4) If you can’t honestly figure out why Cal Poly has a higher salary right out of college, they you my friend, are ■■■■■■■■. Cal Poly is primarily an ENGINEERING school. While they do offer a lot of majors, they also have more engineers than most schools. And last time I checked, engineers hold the top 5 highest paying Bachelor’s degrees. On top of that, more UCSB students attend grad school, which would obviously would correlate to less money immediately out of college.

Hahahahaha

Cal Poly & Saudi Arabia Part deux! – Roger's View of the World, Love and Seafood Gumbo!;

BestIndaWest - where you formerly known as Oop on this forum?

thanks BestIndaWest
glad ur friend got the B

Ouch, so I wonder how many Cal SLO balls he’s going to have to gag in order to respond to DrAhumada’s post. I’d just go back to your sub-forum and shut up if I were you. Obviously he was rejected or wasn’t given the option of somehow attending for him to come here and project his anger. This is lolol.

Awww, I think someone was rejected from UCSB :(

…Sorry BestInda, maybe next time?

Dr.Ahumuda- “all my english was grammatically correct”… “So we’re trust Forbes”. Your english matches the worst of the UCSB drunks. What were your SAT CR and writing scores? Probably not great.

1) I can agree with your acceptance rate point. Note that Cal Poly’s accepted applicants were very similar to UCD and UCSB. Just realize that both Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and San Diego State University are MUCH more selective than UCSB.

2) If the US has “a relatively poor educational system”, then why aren’t the international students staying in their own country for college? Stupid comment, and I completely disagree.

3) Cool lol. We’ll see how you feel about living in IV when your a senior, and actually are focused on what you want to do in life. Isla Vista is a legit place to party for a weekend, not live for 4 years! Also your town HATES ISLA VISTA and UCSB…

4) Why is SJSU(13) ranked ABOVE UCSB(14) then? LOL. What does that say about UCSB’s graduates? They are not respected dude. When you tell your prospective employer that you went to UCSB, they won’t be impressed, all that they will think is that your another partied out graduate who learned how to get through college drunk. Cal Poly’s thesis is “learn by doing”, thats why graduates have higher salaries. They are prepared for the work force or graduate school. Over 95% of Cal Poly graduates are either employed or enrolled in Grad School within 1 year of graduation.

Your right, Cal Poly’s Engineering department is huge and very well respected. But also:
-Cal Poly’s College of Architecture is consistently ranked in the top 5 in the nation among the likes of schools like Harvard.
-Cal Poly’s Orfalea College of Business and UC Berkeley’s Haas College of Business are the only 2 nationally recognized public business colleges in California. [Cal Poly’s Orfalea College of Business Breaks into Top Tier](<a href=“Press Releases | University Communications and Marketing”>Press Releases | University Communications and Marketing)
-The College of Liberal Arts, although usually overlooked, is one of the most selective departments in California. Accepting less than 25% of applicants.
-The College of Agriculture is one of the biggest and best departments in the nation.

Face it, Cal Poly is much better than UCSB.

Go out, get some sunlight and try to make some few friends BestIndaWest. There really is no point arguing with some random on the internet. Its like winning the special olympics, even if you win, your still ■■■■■■■■.

Face it, Cal Poly is much better than UCSB… ANYONE WANT TO RESPOND?

well these r the rankings for the public colleges and ucsb is 11th ( tied with davis and U Washington )

[Best Colleges - Education - US News and World Report](http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/national-top-public)

Cool ucsb’s tied for 11th, but hmmm whats better than number 1?

[Best Colleges - Education - US News and World Report](http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/masters-west-top-public)

Also, whose above who in this ranking?
http://www.forbes.com/2009/08/06/best-public-colleges-opinions-colleges-09-top.html</a></p>

True but UCSB is 11th in Best Colleges: Top Public Schools: National Universities where as SLO is 1 in Best Colleges: Top Public Schools: Master’s Universities (West)

being 11th in the nation ( where Doctorate is the highest degree awarded ) is better than being 1 in a region ( where Masters is the highest degree awarded)

and not to sound rude but if Forbes is so great then why does it rank JHU in the 150s ?

Both my writing and critical reading scores were 690. Rather pointless in telling you that, however, because you could always just say that yours are better. I made the mistake of omitting the -ing on trusting, typos happen. That has no bearing on my intelligence, and its pretty pathetic that you think so.

1) Cal Poly and SDSU are not even CLOSE to as selective as UCSB, with the exception of Cal Poly Engineering (even that is about on par with UCSB engineering). I have many friends that got into both SDSU and Cal Poly but didn’t get into UCSB, including one of my best friends. Its laughable that you think SDSU is more selective, that was my backup for my backup.

2) I was not talking about higher education. Higher education, for the most part, is privately owned. There are very very few international students in the UC and CSU educational system because they are public. Overall, public education is subpar compared to that of many other developed nations. If you disagree with that, you obviously are very delusional.

3) If Isla Vista and UCSB are so bad, then how come ~95% of alumni say they were extremely satisfied with their UCSB experience? That was one of the highest satisfaction rates in the nation. Don’t even try, that’s one thing you CAN’T argue.

4) You missed my point completely. I told you, when a school has a high number of ENGINEERS, their average salaries are gonna be higher because guess what, engineers make a lot of money. I’m currently in Chem Engineering, one of the highest paying salaries in the nation, from UCSB, one of the top ranked schools for Chem Engineering. I’m definitely not in the least worried about finding a job after I get out from UCSB. If SJSU and SDSU were both better schools, then I made a big mistake going to UCSB, considering neither are even close to as hard to get into.

I didn’t ever say Cal Poly was a bad school, it is very good. I was simply defending UCSB because you’re trying to say how we’re all just stupid drunks. I don’t appreciate that. You can gloat all you want, I’m not gonna disagree with that. However, if you want to know some great things about UCSB: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-santa-barbara/753048-did-you-know-10-unique-facts-about-ucsb-why-its-best-school-nation.html</a></p>
