OK, guys. I don't know whether or not you have seen my "venting" thread (do search cuz im not quite sure where it's located). Anyways, it seems to be a success and the people who use it seem to enjoy it. So, I have decided to start another thread (on the Ivy, top college, and college admission forums) to help soothe the emotions of the over-stressed CC'ers. Simply put, anyone on these forums who has gotten into any ivy league schools (or something comparable) and tell of any competitions they DID NOT win, any tests they DID NOT ace, etc. Bascially, show the frazzled CC'ers that you are human, that you are not god. Thanks to all who respond!

P.S. I am one of these CC'ers who could use this.

hey bud...i just wanted to tell you to relax. i'm not really an ivy leaguer yet, but i got into columbia and will be starting this fall. this is a few things to calm you down...
1. i wasnt' number 1 in my class, or even 2. i think i was about 20th, but my school stopped ranking after my sophomore year, so who knows!?
2. i didn't win a scholastic writing award, and i even kinda tried (i'm into journalism). this is semi-bad...at my school...everyone wins. but, no big, i survived
3. i didn't even get in early decision...i got deferred, and then got in...sigh
4. i never won any major contests or anything...just a few awards within my school...all the state competitions, etc...not me
5. i don't play sports, play in band, or do anything where i could win that sort of award. i'm just kinda the random girl.
6. i do work hard, but i wasn't perfect. i got a few b's (2, to be exact) in classes that i hated. i didn't always get along with teachers. my principal and i didn't quite see eye to eye. my guidance councellor thought i was someone else. but, luckily, i had other teachers pulling for me, those who had me in class, and knew me better than the others.

so basically, just relax. try hard, but please enjoy high school. true, it may not always be fun, but make it your own. hang out with your friends, smile, you know, the whole deal. people at my school who didn't get into their top schools were still amazing students...but they didn't really have any activities that they enjoyed. they did things because they thought it would look good on a college application. don't be that kid. but the kid who enjoys their activities. and have fun. good luck!

-was 17th percentile at my HS
-didn't do any sports
-didn't do any school activities past sophomore year, and never assumed a leader position
-didn't volunteer much (only around 70 hours)
-didn't get into the NHS

...and I'm now entering SEAS as a sophomore transfer.
