i didn't get nominated by the teachers for prom court, because i'd been writing/researching for an op/ed story criticizing the methodology of our college counseling the week before the nomination meeting. after the meeting, i got called up to the counselor's office and told that several faculty members had accused me of being anti-school spirited and disdainful of my school. silly faculty. :p

(oh, and i ran the story anyway. sen-sa-tional. :D)

I started a popular revolt on campus against one of our schools most cherished traditions, which got me in a lot of trouble (even though I didnt disrupt anything so they couldnt really do anything disciplinary).

I unintentially insulted the headmaster in a newspaper article, a huge mistake. Again I didn't get in lots of trouble, but I had to have 'tea' with him one afternoon.

I got a 69 on two of my AB Calculus tests and one quiz.

I got a C+ in Painting 2 one marking period (half a trimester), because my painting teacher grades on a curve (how ridiculous is that). It was my lowest grade.

I turned in an AP English essay 2 weeks late after the school play, and my 95 grade was reduced to a 75, although I convinced my really nice teacher to give me my credit back if I wrote another essay about another aspect of the same book which was better....and it was so I got a 95 and and 97. He still reduced my participation grade by 12 to an 80% though.

I was tried for cheating because a french teacher didn't understand that my spanish teacher let us use a laptop for our final exam essays. We had a bi-lingual argument in the hallway, which alerted every exam room down the hall and caused the academic dean to scold both of us.

*I was rejected from TASP during junior year
*I got a whopping 600 (not a typo) on my SAT II Literature test
*I never made All-State on trumpet (my 'main' extracurricular activity)
*I had like two actual leadership positions (and one tutoring lab coordinator position that I didn't end up spending much time with)
*I've never played a sport, or had a job, and rarely volunteered

whispers What's TASP? And am I the only person accepted to Princeton who got less than a 600 on an SAT II?

That reminds me. Last on my list of painful moments: Getting rejected from my three top choices - Yale, Amherst, and Williams. Well ... the last two were waitlists. But it comes to the same.

hey pasta, u are not alone....can we 560 on US history SATII? and dont let me even stop there...my list of UNimpressiveness continues with:
*an extremely low gpa...and i do mean low
*a ho-hum list of EC's where I was good but not GREAT
*a couple of C's on the senior transcript...but I tried...
*no fantastic awards, unless u count national achievement scholar (didnt get the money tho), and boston globe all-star...which sounds impressive...but isnt
*i think the last spelling bee i was in was in 2nd grade...
*I could go on...but this is one bragging session, i don't want to win...and I feel like I could...

and yea, i dunno wat TASP is either? The Amazing Society of Prodigies? really, i have no clue...

I got a 640 on the SAT I math. Cringe. After several months of prep classes, I took it again and got ... 650. Ouch! Plus, I was sooo mad that I'd wasted all those weekends studying only to end up with basically the same score.

I got waitlisted at Swarthmore. I guess that hurt a little.

I never got inducted into NHS at my high school, even though I applied three times. I didn't have enough "leadership." I'm peeved about it to this day.

TASP = Telluride Association Summer Program. It's basically a ridiculously selective summer program in the social sciences/humanities. If you know what RSI is, think of TASP as the humanities equivalent of that.

Hahaha ... it's not hard to get Bs in AB Calc at my school ... otherwise I would have done worse. Let's put it this way: I suck at math. Plain and simple.

And I really missed the boat on all this TASP stuff - thank goodness. I wouldn't want to be rejected AGAIN. ;-)

several other good colleges. didnt apply to your college, byerly if that's what youre "really" asking.

Actually, im somewhat exaggerating, the bad grade wasnt for lack of effort or academics, but for other reasons dealing with personal issues which was made stronly clear in the application.

But seriously, HYPS expect top grades/SAT's and stellar achievements. You might miss one of those but u can make up for it in another area.

haha, the bad grade wouldnt have mattered anyways since it was in physical education. A gym class with a sort of physical education component, for goodness sake.

hyps use the grades from your core academic courses, so gym/physical education doesnt count.

The A's i had in my core academic courses, and my high SAT
s, EC's are what mattered most.
