for all you top collegers

OK, guys. I don't know whether or not you have seen my "venting" thread (do search cuz im not quite sure where it's located). Anyways, it seems to be a success and the people who use it seem to enjoy it. So, I have decided to start another thread (on the Ivy, top college, and college admission forums) to help soothe the emotions of the over-stressed CC'ers. Simply put, anyone on these forums who has gotten into any ivy league schools (or something comparable) and tell of any competitions they DID NOT win, any tests they DID NOT ace, etc. Bascially, show the frazzled CC'ers that you are human, that you are not god. Thanks to all who respond!

P.S. I am one of these CC'ers who could use this.

I failed my AP European History final and got a C in the class.

And yes, I literally failed. With an F.

My SATs:
Math* – 790
Writing –720
Reading – 680

The second time I took this thing I got a worse score in every subject. Stupid Princeton Review…

AP US History – 3

Took the national chem. Olympiad, didn’t go onto training camp.

Oh, and I just barely managed a B in freshman English. Any lower and it’ve been a C.

Final conclusion: If you're goin to a tech school, the humanities jest ain't that important.

*Note: I don’t consider SAT I math real math. I never got above a 790 on that even though I aced the SAT II Math IIc on my 1st try.

It's not really necessary to post this in practically every forum.

Yeah, Durran's right, but since i hate the band Durran Durran, I'll post here.

I ONLY (yeah, only, jk) got into USC, which I saw somewhere around the engineering board was actually rated higher than Cal Tech in engineering.

Go ask any engineer in any firm and see how Caltech compares to USC in their mind as an engineering school :-D

I think bmanbs2 is referring to grad school rankings, but I'm tired of rankings so on to the main point. Anyway, I've had many setbacks and I made it out all right ;-). For instance, I failed the gifted and talented test they give in elementary school (although I think this was one of the best things that ever happened to me). I'm pretty sure I failed the AP Spanish test. I didn't get into some summer math camp last year. I totally bombed a piano performance test. I mean, the evaluator was about to start laughing hysterically but didn't due to a good deal of effort. Oh, and I've never, ever, won a school science fair. These are just off the top of my head, and I'm sure I've messed up in many more things. This may sound trite, but you learn the most from your failures. I wouldn't take back any of them.

take a look at these lovely SATs in verbal 550 CR and 560 Writting and I have lived in the US my whole life lol. I just want to say SUCK it Collage board!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This wasn't too much of a setback... just a really embarassing mistake: I was working in a robotics lab last summer, and I accidently wired an ammeter in parallel with the battery rather than in series. The battery shorted, and then caught on fire.

Soooo.... yeah. I'm never making that mistake again.

Heh... anyway, one of the grad students in the room cut the circuit before there was too much damage. I cleaned everything up and rebuilt the battery and made sure everything worked again. My experiments were supervised after that. It was a learning experience.

-Oren

I know it doesn't matter, and I really could care less, but I bet the people at Cal Tech do, be it grad or undergrad. Pick it up guys!

(The rankings in question were actually "undergraduate engineering rankings", whatever that means.) Agreed about not mattering.

XD! people who think we're gods for getting into a certain school need their brains checked, seriously. Ben Golub is God, though.

I've done too many stupid things to count; I went to a band concert performance once, without my instrument. I borrowed some lady's car keys during a community service event, then went home with them. Yeah : </p>

: /

so much of what i do is a failure that i would have to give up my summer project to enumerate all of it. so please hush with the silliness.

this thread, however, is an excellent idea.

3 AP BC calculus, 3 subscore, 3 C Mech, 2 E&M. :)

Never qualified for the AIME, despite two attempts.

This is just to name some of my testing failures that come right to mind. This list could go on a very, very long time with all sorts of other things. :)
