For an accounting career...

What do I need to look for in the school I attend?

I'm currently looking at two state schools, one is the University of Oklahoma (OU) and the other is the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO). Oklahoma State University (OSU) is also one to look at, but only if it is extremely better than the other two since that would require me to move to another city entirely.

As far as cost goes it's about 2600 a semester at UCO, 4000 or so at OU and almost 7000 at OSU.

Obviously I would prefer UCO's price tag, but only if I can still get what I need from that school to succeed in the world of accounting.

If there is anyone out there who can help me decide which is best, then I would really like to hear from you.

Thank you to whoever answers, I can't wait to read your replies!

hey i’m just going to give you the quick and dirty answer. so i’m sorry for my grammatical errors. honestly, accounting is accounting. whether it’s at a community college or your regular university… it’s accounting under GAAP or IFRS standards. you debit this and credit that. if i were you, I would most importantly look into what firms are recruiting from that school. you would like to see the big4, regional, and local firms recruiting.

For example, when I went into the interview room (with anyone of the big4 firms), i was in the room with 20-30 other candidates (this was the morning shift, so there was at least another 20-30 coming in for the afternoon shift), they didn’t care where you went to school. there were candidates there from colleges ranging from 15k a year to 39k a year.

I hope that helps. if you were asking which one of those three schools were better, i couldn’t help you there.

DD’s career plan is in public accounting. When we were looking at the different accounting programs two years ago, we compared two things -
recruitment/placement in big4/national/regional;
curriculum meeting CPA requirement.
