For anybody preparing for the SAT II US History test: I have some advice!

Hi. Since I've been frantic over the same problem, I'll answer it.. hopefully it will be helpful to a lot of you. I am aware that many of you have taken the Sparknotes SAT II US History practice tests. Aren't you guys shocked by the extremely low score you get on those tests? Well same here.. I took 4 Sparknotes tests and got the following scores: 670, 690, 710, and 700. Yeah, I know.. fail.. The 700 test was the one I took the morning before the actual May test. However, I did manage to pull off an 800 on the real thing. So the lesson is: don't worry about your Sparknotes practice tests scores. You should add about 50~100 onto the score you get on Sparknotes to determine your real score.

Hey thanks lol! yeah i’ve definitely noticed that at the very least, the curve is non-existent on the sparknotes test lol!

you have to get every question right to get an 800 on sparknotes? ***! xD

Thank you for this advice! I just freaked out because I got another score less than a 700 to go along with a 650, two 660s and a 640. :)

That’s comforting to know since I got a 740 on the Sparknotes test :).

I’m still frantically preparing my ass off though as I want an 800 on my first subject test haha. (Barron’s + Amsco + CC)

Wow, thanks! That’s a relief. =)

thanks, glad to know I’m not the only one having this problem with Sparknotes!

I have to disagree with this. I took the SAT II US in May and got a 650, and on the sparknotes I got 640 and a 720, in the first two. A potential confounding variable: I studied my butt off for the AP, so sparknotes may still be harder.

^ Eh, you’re an outlier.

Everyone else I know has found their real SAT II score to be at least 40 points higher than their SparkNotes scores, often more than that.

S got 800. never got above 720 on sparks

My highest on Sparknotes was 610. I scored a 670 on the actual thing. It helps… a lot!

(And I couldn’t get higher than 500 on Barrons.)

I have to agree with loilypop, but obviously this trend differs by each person depending on their strengths and weaknesses.

Does the sparknotes review section help?

This is so true, I got a 770 on the US History practice Test, but I got an 800 on the actual test

well this is just my experience with sparknotes math and biology
but they sometimes tend to count correct answers wrong =P
for instance (B was not the correct answer…the correct answer was B)

but yea
just add about 50 points and that should be fixed haha

I agree with mosdefinitely…lots of test prep companies make their practice tests more difficult than the real thing, which is a good thing. It over prepares you so that your real score turns out slightly higher than you expected. I experienced the same thing with my GREs.

Another great resource for prepping for SAT II U.S. history is Shmoop. Each of their history study guides have in-depth timelines, bios of important people, demographic stats, famous quotes about key issues, and cram sheets! Check it out: [US History Study Guides, Teacher Resources](US History, American History)

Does anyone know where to find online practice tests for the US History SAT subject tests?

Are Sparknote tests online?

Yeah they are. Google it.

There’s also a book.
