any feedback on upitt and its honors college and strength of chem programs and/or ability to do undergrad research, prof vs ta teaching for undergrad, student faculty ratio etc
checking schools for my son who is interested in chemistry, premed, possibly md/phd program at some point.

would he have a decent chance at merit aid (oos) or to be considered for the bs/md program?

I think he is certainly in the ballpark for acceptance. If you read back in some older Pitt threads, you may discover that merit money from Pitt is a little confusing. It seems that some apparently better qualified students got much less than apparently less qualified students and sometimes less than received from other colleges. Who knows? Perhaps being oos helps somewhat. Anyway, good luck!

You won't know about the merit scholarships until you apply. It seems stats that may have gotten awards last year didn't this year. Who knows what will happen next year? With the millions they lost in investments -- they may be even more selective next year.

thanks, i agree it does seem a little confusing re merit. Must admit i like schools that publish their criteria for merit..ie automatic scholarships based on act and gpa. makes it alot easier.

thanks for the advice, hopefully act will come up in april . in reading old posts it seems they are pretty speedy at sending back acceptance/denial once app received.
i noticed in their info, if interested in the guarantee md program that you should check premed, can you also list another ie chemistry so you can be admitted with that if you dont qualify for consideration of the md program?

you have to apply as either pre-med or bioengineering to be considered for the guaranteed MD program.

if you don't get it I'm sure you can change your major without a problem. I applied bioengineering, received an application, but was not invited for an interview. i want to study bioengineering so i don't have to change haha.
