For anyone wanting advice on prevet :)

Hi everyone! I am currently a sophomore studying genetics at Purdue University, and I am pre-vet. If you are looking for any advice on anything prevet related, I’d be happy to answer questions. Also, you should all check out the Purdue Veterinary Scholars program that offers pre-admission to vet school. I have a blog as well that you should read! https://dvmorbust.wordpress.com/

Hi, very glad to find your thread. Do you know how hard would it be for an international student to transfer to Purdue’s pre-vet program from Canada? Also, how good is PU at preparing you for vet school and all the necessary exams? Thanks!

What are the statistics that you think a senior in HS needs to get into the Purdue Veterinary Scholars program?

For sure you need to be above the minimum requirements listed on the Vet Scholars information page. I am a vet scholar and my HS GPA was 4.5/5, ACT 34, 9 APs, good extracurriculars, three years volunteering at local humane society, but very little vet experience. I would say that my fellow vet scholars have around the same/possibly a little lower in terms of GPA and test scores!

Wow that’s amazing my stats are lower though, do you see me having any chance of getting in with them?
GPA 4.3
ACT 32
9 APs and few extracurricular
I’ve volunteered a lot but not for animal shelters, few times for pet adoption
I created a club for animal welfare and service in my high school
I interned at an animal hospital for a quarter
Thank you so much for your reply!!

I think you have a great shot! Make sure your personal statement stands out because that will be what really sets you apart

Thank you, that made my day
And I’ve started my personal statement. I’m writing it like a story of my life that has lead me to pursue veterinary science and the career itself. Is that what they are looking for?
Sorry for bombarding you with questions!

That’s pretty much what mine was about! I would also include what you want to do with the profession in the future, like career goals. And no problem I’m here to help!

What classes should I be taking in highschool to prepare

Just wondering what kinds of questions they asked during the skype interview? My daughter just applied and I’m hoping she will get an interview. Her stats are very similar to yours and she volunteers at a local humane society, theraputic equine riding center, and works for a local vet. Thanks!

Hi, epaul97!
I am currently a junior in high school and saw your post on college confidential. My dream is to become a vet like you are. Not long ago, I visited Purdue University and fell in love with it. When I found out about the early acceptance program I loved it even more. I have a question about the application process for the vet scholars program. What type of activities did you do outside of school like working with vets, working at a humane society, etc.? I currently have the GPA recommendation, and I am working on my SAT, which I just took yesterday. Also, what do you think made your application stand out from others and what was the interview like? Also, how do you like attending Purdue and how difficult are the classes and keeping up your GPA? My friend told me Purdue has grade inflation, so it is extremely difficult to get an A. Sorry to bombard you with questions, but I have so many!! Does that seem true? Any extra information about Purdue, pre-vet programs, or any vet information would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!!
