For anyone who ever got into Brown:

Did you do any part of the application in a way that differed from what the directions say? For example, I have no idea how to assemble my EC’s and awards on the one lined page they provide. I remember being told at an info session that a way to do that part of the app is to write a few paragraphs about specific activities and attach a separate resume, but the app itself says to use the space provided. I guess I just want to know if it’s suicide to stray from the instructions, or if I’m better off attaching the extra page (because I really think I need to explain some activities thoroughly, but if I did that I wouldn’t be able to display the rest of my EC’s.) I need some advice from those who got in!

I attached information that I thought was pertinent to the application. It was all considered, even my two research papers that were forwarded to a professor with similar interests who actually contacted me after I got in to discuss my papers briefly.

It's not suicide to stray from instructions. Just don't make your essays like 1500 words when they ask for 500.

When in doubt, you can always call admissions and ask for clarification or if something is ok. My daughter applied to Brown and got in and is now a soph. I recall asking admissions if it was ok to just use her activity resume and they said yes, and so she wrote "see attached" and she attached her three page annotated activity/award resume that she sent to all schools. She did NOT have to then also fill out anything in that section on the Brown app. At some schools, if you attach a resume, you still have to fill in some little chart thing (again, ask if in doubt, though some apps explain it).

My son used the online application, which allowed him to upload his whole resume (two full pages) in exactly the format he had chosen. I was pretty impressed that that worked. The online app was really easy . . .you might want to check it out.

i thought a standard resume is supposed to be one page? i shortened mine to one page should i change it back?

momofthree, what format did your son do for resume..like did he list the activity with the hours/wk and wk/yr and then have bullet points under the activity title? how do u get 2 full pages?
