Did you buy the optional textbooks and are they helpful?

CSE 3 is a joke class.
Seriously. No reason you shouldn’t get an A, and I don’t know what the textbooks are, but you basically learn how to use a computer.

Yeah I took it! No I wouldn’t buy the optional textbooks. I just used the required one to study for tests and that was it. Got an A in the class.

ok thanks :)

It says both books are optional though?
Should I buy one anyway?

Who do you have? I have Marx, and I was reading comments about her on RateMyProfessor.com and all the comments say that the textbooks are unnecessary and the class is an easy A.

Thanks, yeah I have Marx too.

do not take the final as a joke. the final was effin hard and brought my final grade to an A- i know… pretty pathetic.

^truuuuue story! I about had a panic attack walking out of that final. I don’t remember what exactly was so hard about it though.

I’m a structural engineering major, and it says on the sixth college website:

All students must take CSE 3. Exceptions are made for
- Engineering majors who are required to take either CSE 11 or CSE 8A and 8AL or MAE 9 or ECE 15 or SE 9.

But I won’t be taking SE 9 until sophomore year… Do I need to take CSE 3 before taking CAT 3? It’s impossible to take SE 9 before CAT 3, so I was pretty confused.

Dang, half of CC is going to be in CSE with Marx lol

@ bman14

So for the final, get a textbook to study from or what?

if you feel like you need to study the textbook for the final just go to Geisel library and they will have the textbook on Reserve–you can check it out for 3 hour periods to study and you dont have to buy the thing

@STL91 -

I read somewhere (I believe on the Sixth college site, sorry I can’t remember) that you need to take CSE3 in either fall or winter quarter, so definitely before CAT3
