Where would be the best place to go in terms of:

Job placement (my #1 concern)

Opportunities for internships

Best value for my money

*I realize that NU does not have an undergraduate b-school when compared to the other schools. Also, I am OOS accepted into UT-Austin's McCombs School, so in-state tuition obviously does not apply to me. I, unfortunately, was not accepted into UT-Austin's BHP program--however, if I do choose to go to UT-Austin, I'll probably apply for sophomore admissions.

What are each school's top programs for business school preparation? I know that NU is well known for econ and UT-Austin is #1 for Accounting, but what about WashU and Emory?

If you recommend WashU and its Olin School, for example, where do most graduates go to work? Midwest? What about the East, South, or West? I'm just concerned that if I go to Emory and its Goizueta School, for instance, I'll have a difficult time finding jobs outside the Southeast.

I also heard WashU grads (other than premeds, WashU has great med school placement) have difficulty finding jobs after graduation--is this true?

Right now I'm considering to go into investment banking or consulting.

Thanks in advance!

Um, come on now… this is the BUSINESS MAJOR forum.

50 views and no response?

Do you have a preference in terms of where you would like to live after graduation?

If you’ve gotten into Northwestern, I’d go to Northwestern. I’d study economics and get into the MENU or MMSS programs. Furthermore, I’d try and get into the Kellogg Certificate program. Regardless, I’d take classes at Kellogg. For me, this is an easy one, Northwestern all the way (I do not go to Northwestern).

In terms of the other schools:

Texas has a fantastic accounting program. I don’t know if you want to do accounting though. However, Texas has good connections with Texas oil companies as well as with businesses in Texas. I don’t know how they are outside of Texas, but I’m sure it does alright.

WashU, ah WashU. It’s a really good school, but I don’t know how it does in terms of recruiting. I don’t know if that’s a good thing.

Emory is similar to WashU in that Goizuetta is good, but it’s not Wharton or McIntire. I mean both schools have good programs, but on a national scale I think Northwestern wins here. I think Texas is second best especially if you do well and you get into BHP. Let’s see what others have to say.

Northwestern
Emory
Texas-honors/washington U
Texas

depends where you want to work

Emory’s Goizueta School is ranked #4 on BusinessWeek, how seriously should I take this statistic? Emory seems to be touting this a lot, and I heard Goizueta bschool students are very competitive.

You guys seem to regard Northwestern the highest, yet NU coincidentally is the only one out of those schools that doesn’t have a business school.

Any more thoughts on WashU’s Olin School and/or UT McCombs?

UT is okay, i wouldnt go unless you are in the honors program or seeking employment in the texas area
Olin is excellent but i heard career services suck, i mean who recruits in the st.louis area
NW has a certificate program with Kellogg(NW’s busienss school(grad))
so you can major in math and econ and get certificate in finance
if you want to do finance, NW has alot of pretige
Emory is up and coming recruitment isn’t exactly fully development yet but i heard it is still decent
i would choice between NW and Emory

why isn’t UT getting any love from you guys? I know it’s worse than NU, but BHP is one of the best for recruiting, and it’s considered at least a semi-target. Yeah, most people non-BHP get jobs in Houston, but it’s possible to get jobs outside of Texas as well, and if you hate Houston that much, bear with it for a few years do well on the GMAT and go to a good MBA school so you can work wherever you want. Besides, is Houston, Dallas, etc. really that bad? Who wants to go broke in rainy NYC anyways? I’d argue that UT even non-BHP is better than Emory and definitely better than Wash U for business, especially at the undergrad level.

Northwestern, then Emory.
