For chemEs: Organic II vs Physical I

Hi,

I have to choose between taking organic II and physical chemistry I.

My chemistry advisor recommends organic II based on the fact that I have already taken thermo as an engineering course

My Engineering advisor says recommends physical chemistry to ensure that I have broad knowledge.

As far as my interest is concerned, I will be happy with either one.

Do grad school care at all?

Thanks,
-Faizan

no one really cares. Take what you want

Usually Org II and then P Chem I. Org II is not absolutely absolutely necessary, but it should be. As for P Chem I it depends on what was covered in the Thermo class. Was it just an Intro? If there’s no follow on Thermo class, then eventually take P Chem I. The real question is should you take P Chem 2? Hopefully, you have time for all of them.
My question is: why do you have 2 different advisors? Are you a double major?

Take org chem 2, since you learn about nmr techniques in this class and further your knowledge about compounds that you’ll be seeing in your career, however phys chem is similiar to thermo so your not missing out on much, also i believe you’ll be taking other class that deal with concept covered in physical chem.
