For classes, does more units always mean more work?

Like would 5 unit lower-division humanities class actually be more work than a 4 unit lower-division chemistry class?

Not necessarily. It depends on the class and it also depends on your personal strengths.

Not in my experience. 5 unit courses tend to take up less time than my 4 unit courses. One of my 3 unit classes, Chem 14BL, took more time than some of my 4 unit classes.

Lab classes usually take more time than their units would indicate. The units reflect the number of hours per week in lab, usually, but the write ups take forever. My TA for chem 20L told our section that we should treat that 3 unit class as 5 units.

I took Psych 100B, a 6 unit class, and I feel it didn’t compare to the amount of work I put in for 14BL or CL. Granted, 100B was mostly group work, but still…

If only the chemistry labs were as relaxing as the bio lab (LS23L), cause the relentless lab reports and the time spent running the experiments drained my soul
