For college grads moving west

My D17 moved to San Francisco in Nov. 2021 after graduating from college. She shares a 3 bedroom apartment with two other 20-something young women in a nice area of North Beach. Not fancy but certainly livable. She is currently working in HR for a well-established non-profit. According to that chart, she is between the very low and low income levels (much closer to very low). She does get very good benefits. She doesn’t have a car but she’s happy and is able to travel by public transportation, eat out, and buy things she wants. She’s a good money manager and has never received any monetary assistance from me or anyone else since college graduation. It is definitely possible for young singles to live in the Bay Area on much less than median income.

I agree, which is why I found the state’s decision so interesting. I suppose there is an agenda behind it, for surely a substantial part of the SF single population would qualify as low income using this criteria.
