its not bad..it'll serve your purposes in college or high school. Its 1.66GHz so its standard for a labtop. Memory is pretty good. DELL SUCKS. Graphics card is not bad ( i have it). go for it! DELL SUCKS

What do you want, mobility or power?

To tell you the truth the only important things you should have posted were the ram, rom, processor, and video card. It looks good, but I assume its gonna be one large laptop, 120 gigs of ram, and 1 gig of ram. The dual core processors are sweet but pretty useless for common use. Its a pretty hooked up laptop, what will you be using it for? I think its good, but it won't be fun lugging it around.

i'll second the comments above. is mobility important?

It's good, dell does not suck. Buy it unless you get a better offer. Although I would want a 1.8 Gig processor if i want it to last 4 years of college, but 1.67 is still OK.

And Insane_Membrane, I assume by "rom" in your first sentence you mean harddrive space, and also the first 'ram' in your second sentence? I'm sorry I was confused..

Sorry, yeah I mistyp

insane_membrane I assume by mistyp you meant mistype

lol yeah. I've got to slow down while typing.

There is nothing more annoying when people (wrongly) assert that, "Dell sucks." Please qualify this. Most likely you believe this to be true because of Dell's reputation in the desktop market... laptops are different! Dell laptops have been recognized as the best in the industry. Go for the Dell!

Actually I like my Dell laptop, Inspiron 6000. Runs great, and my dad's laptop Inspiron 8000 is about 6 years old but runs as if its brand new.
Other than Dell I think Toshibas are awesome, and the new Ibooks from Mac.

First, I just want to clarify a few things.

A processor's clockspeed is no longer the only defining factor in its ability to handle information. There are many reasons including chipset and chip architecture as to why a 3.2 gHz Pentium 4 is put to shame by an AMD Opteron at 1.8 gHz and why a AMd Athlon at 2.2 gHz can dominate a Celeron D at 2.9 gHz.

To the OP: Now THAT is one heck of a system you have there.

The fact that you have a SATA HD, Core Duo, and 256 mb of ATI RADEON!!!!!! For 1400 I'd hit it :)

One question... is all of that power necessary?

A 1.8 gHz pentium M, an integrated graphics card, 1 gb RAM, 80 GB HD (unless you're putting libraries of multimedia in your laptop) should be enough.

VIRUS PROTECTION: Use AVG, it's free, and it works great!

i appriciate all your input i forgot i posted this here and i actually just recieved my new inspiron 1505 and it is really awesome after i took off all the junkware that came with it and tinkered with a few thing but now its super fast and just super awesome, oh yeh i reinstalled the os to get rid of all the extra stuff which was good also went in and changed the stuff for start up so now its super
