Hi! I come from a typical high school, and am in the top 10% of my class (although my high school has a large amount of smart people- its ranked like 150th in the country and 13th in my state I think). I have a 3.86 UW GPA and a 4.2 W GPA, along with a 2170 on my SAT (650 CR, 740 M, 780 W with a 10 on essay). I have done a lot of extra-curriculars, such as being a secretary in NAMI for 2 years (a club that is based on psychology, what I am planning to major in at Cornell; biopsychology is my major at UCLA and UC Berkeley). I have also been a secretary for a year at Green Club and am a vegan activist. I have done cross-country for 4 years, track for 2 years, and have maintained a poetry blog since the start of high school. My essays have been judged by three people as being good-amazing and my topic is about an eating disorder that I recovered from and gained a lot of awareness and interests from. For Cornell (UC’s don’t take letters of rec unless they ask), I have 2 teacher letters of recommendation (Both English teachers) and 2 letters of recommendation from outside sources (1 from a UCSD class in psychology where I earned an A+ and most people didn’t; and 1 from a Cornell summa cum laude graduate from Cornell, who is my cousin). What do you think are my chances of getting in to these universities, as I am pure white (possessing little ethnic diversity), a homosexual, and am part of a well-off family. Thank-you so much for taking your time in reading this statement and for commenting.
You did not elaborate on your classes and grades. From the difference between your unweighted and weighted GPA, i can imagine that you have not taken too many APs?
You need at least 2 subject tests to be competitive for those schools (though are not mandatory for UCs). This year UCB accepts letter of recommendation for the first time. So make sure to provide them!
Your SAT is very low for Cornell as they only take the Math and R components into consideration (unfortunately your high W component has not much of weight for Cornell). You may have to try SAT again or go for ACT ?
Also I do not believe your sexual orientation will be considered a hook for UCs.
With the present stats: Low Reach for all.

Also, I took a subject test in Biology (molecular): 690
I also took 5 other ones, but the scores are all terrible (all are 640) so I am not submitting those to any of the schools, except for Cornell due to their policy against Score Choice.
Additionally, for the UC Berkeley, they only offer it to a select amount of people; thus, it is not open to everyone. They contact each person individually and they are doing it a little bit later (at least to what I have heard) as friends of mine have not gotten a letter and they have perfect stats (4.0 UW and 2400)
I think I’m going to create a new topic so that my info is clearer. So sorry for the confusion and lack of information provided- I’m pretty knew to College Confidential
