The current students already know that the list of Fall 06 classes have been released, but I thought our curious acceptees/incoming freshmen would want to know :D:

FYI, the incoming freshmen usually register during their orientation in June/July. That's when you all learn to use Web Registration, although if you have been able to get into OASIS then you could possibly get into the Web Reg system as well:

WOuld any current students be willing to post a sample schedule. How many classes do you have a week? AT what times, on what days? I'm curious as to how hectic life will be.

well, my schedule for last fall was a lot of major courses - kinda boring - but generically for freshman it goes something like this:

writ-140 - your 1st semester writing requirement
your "social issues" class requirement
arlt-100g - your cat5 GE requirement
generic major course

For engineering, the major specific course could be physics, calculus, comp sci 101, etc. For other majors, it would be the 101 class in that area probably.

At USC, they give you tremendous leeway in choosing your own schedule and order of classes. In fact, if you know what your major is definitely, then I would recommend putting off the writing and social issues classes for a later semester. That way you can take more interesting courses your first semester while you still get used to college.

But do register/take your arlt-100 course (cat-5 req) as soon as possible! All of the interesting arlt courses fill up really really fast and so you don't want to put it off at all.

"But do register/take your arlt-100 course (cat-5 req) as soon as possible! All of the interesting arlt courses fill up really really fast and so you don't want to put it off at all."

how/when do yu do this? and what is an arlt course, and which ones are interesting? lol sorry, so many questions.

arlt-100 is "arts and letters", which is more interesting than it sounds. Basically, they're courses where you study some topic and write a lot of papers about it. They're small courses, about 28 students, and they cover some specific area - for example, next fall some options include:

Venice: A City and Its Culture
One Act Plays and Short Stories in World Literature
Knowledge and Imagination in Science Fiction
Ethics and Morality in Buddhist Literature
Renaissance Culture
Ideas of Mortality from Mesopotamia to MTV
Images of the Americas and Early Representations of the New World

The trouble is, finding one of these courses that is interesting to you, fits your schedule, and is still open is tough - and you have to do it within your first 4 semesters at USC. So you don't have to do it your first semester, but don't put it off! As soon as you see one you like, register.

My schedule for my first semester, as a Pre-Med/TO student was:
Core 102- Commemoration(4units)
Core 111- Writing(4units)
Bisc 120- Introductory Bio(4units)
Chem 105a- Introductory Chem(4units)
and a Freshman Seminar- Medical Controversies and the Law(2units)
Total of 18 units. A normal course load is from 16-18 units.

no friday classes - sometimes in engineering, but less so elsewhere (they are trying to relieve scheduling conflicts and classroom conflicts by adding more friday classes)

like, last semester I only had a 1-hour TA discussion session on friday. This semester friday has all of my lab/"etc" classes, though.

All undergrad math classes meet on Fridays. So if you are a math, engineering, or science major, then you'll be stuck with the Friday math lecture. (But then many people do skip it...hint hint) Anyone else, jbusc is right; you guys have it easy on Fridays.

Oh, one more class that could meet on Fridays is some WRIT-140 classes, like mine. And attendance is mandatory for that class.

This was my 1st semester class load:
EE-105 - Intro to Electrical Engineering (3)
MASC-110L - Materials Science (4) (If you're an EE, ME, or ISE major, then take this instead of chem! Much easier, but boring class)
ENGR-102A - Engineering Freshman Academy (1)
MATH-125 - Calc I (4)
ARLT-100g - Modern Russian Art (4)
Total: 16 units
