For current applicants (class of 09)...WHY is Penn your first choice?

dont worry soysauce, you're not the only one! i was shopping and was looking at heavy coats, and i was like hmmm.. do i need these next year? and boots?? and scarves? and mittens?? (i live in san diego)

and im staying up for the uc app too... why couldn't they be due after Penn ED is posted?? ackk so unmotivated.

I'm on the east coast. I used to stay up really late last year, like 3:30 was no big deal to me. For Senior year, I sleep a bit earlier and longer, so 3:31am is pretty late for me. But I'm determined to finish at least one essay ugh.

I don't think i can be too passionate for any college except for Penn(cuz I lived there for three years so the school just became really personal to me.) But for other schools, I mean every school has lots of opportunities and I think it just depends on how I make of my experience there. And I didn't get a chance to visit many schools that I'm applying so I just can't connect with them that much. On the contrary, I'm good with observing stuff so I know a lot about myself and my friends.

dbsklove, yeah...it's really painful lol. I'm just using one essay from my common app and debating on whether I should just tweak another essay or write a new one.

@ dbsklove & soysauce56: I'm in the exact same shoe as you are...from the west coast, too. So which college(s) are you two applying to at Berkeley?

Good question...I'm still debating on that haha.I'm from the east coast, so the reason I want to apply to several uc's is that the weather is so nice in Cali!!! I planned to apply to engineering school at ucb but it's so hard to get in, especially for outer state people and I just found out that uc only wants sat scores from ONE setting?? I got 790 on math, 640 on cr, and 620 on writing the first time I took it. For the second time, I got 680 for math(I didn't think it mattered so I didn't try...) and 700 for cr, and 740 for writing. So if I apply for engineering school, I need a high math score, but my highest score from one setting is the one with 680 on math. And my SAT II math score is only 760. So I'm really stuck. I might apply to L&S now since I got 800 on chem. Even now, I'm not sure which scores I want to send. Any suggestions?

lol the chinese don't know any schools besides HAHVAHD, princeton, columbia, MIT, stanford, and probably yale.

^Penn and Berkeley are quite well-reputed among the Chinese community as well.

well if they're well informed...cornell's pretty well known too...so is Penn, but darty and brown...not so much i guess. but then as soon as u tell 'em that they're ivy leagues, they're like, "ooooooooooooooh okay"...kinda annoying i must say.

Lol I get what you mean...yeah Cornell is well know, too, for having accepted Hu Shi in the early 1900's I think.

lol who's Hu Shi?

better yet... hu is shi?

wow.........

..........

aw c'mon guys...english in another language is kinda iffy to me...lmao okay now i feel stupid

hmmm so many chinks ;D! but i wonder if thats gonna hurt our chances...seems like every asian is applying to UCB too. hahaha the 30% of its student body is asians!

If accepted i would run around like a retard and wouldnt have to worry about my borderline grades.

if denied/deferred- i have finals on that week...i would be screwd regardless

i'm not applyin to berkeley. it's on the other side of america! plus, my parents think 3-4 hour away is too far...i can't imagine if i mention berkeley to 'em

I didn't really mention Berkeley or other UC's that much..maybe just once when they weren't paying attention. I'm just applying regardless lol. They can't really stop me when if I dont' get in any other good schools except the ones on the west coast ;)

haha wow. so many chinese people!
are ya'll bananas or fobs or internationals?
i myself am a rotten banana. i'll fit right in in west philly.

born in china, moved to jersey when i was 9. can we do an ethnic background count on this board? lol

hahaha, so much for Penn having the most diversity.

hahaha! let's do this ethnic background thing.

born in china, moved to WEST PHILLY when i was 7 because my dad got a job at PENN. haha.
i no longer live in west philly though, but i hope to move back into that neighborhood (i lived like..two blocks away from penn) next fall!!!
