well that's an advantage for u applyin to penn!

about the same as yournamehere, but I lived in bunch of places

now here's the real question, where are y'all from in China?

okay fine...

born in US...im chinese and proud of it, not fobby tho cuz i grew up in white suburbs...not a banana either cuz im proud of my heritage...at times i can be "ghetto" from my basketball friends lol

overall, just another asian boy grown up in a nice suburb hoping to play basketball at Pottruck (Penn's gym) next year

I'm Cantonese, but I can't really say I'm from China cuz I've never even been back.

oh yeah, I don't think I fit in any of the "categories". I'm really liberal and my parents aren't like Asian parents either. They don't pressure me to do anything and don't really mind if I don't go to like top-tier schools. Though, at times I don't have the common sense that even fobs have...

soysauce56, i'm from hefei, which is 5 hours from shanghai.

a2npersuas2n, you're a rotten banana, like myself. i'm not a banana or a fob either. haha. i'm americanized and all, but i'm really proud of my chinese heritage. i hope there's a bunch of us next year. we can start our own club and minor in Asian American studies!!!!
do you guys like asian dramas?!?!

oh, and pottruck is awesome. i used to swim there.

@ Crystal -- hhaaha that'd be fun, and I do watch asian music videos but im not really into dramas at all

by they way guys, knock on wood cuz we still gotta get in!

Haha, I used to watch asian dramas to brush up on my Chinese...but some of them get pretty boring after a while. You know what, I want to do a documentary on early decision students. Like on their anxieties before notification and on their reactions afterwards.

i'm from shanghai!!! big city girl. well i lived in NYC too. even NOW, i'm only 10 minutes away from NYC (but i'm actually in Jersey). lol.

so besides shanghai and NY, i lived in princeton too. yea, THAT princeton. 2 blocks away from the front gate of the university.

i don't consider myself that asian, except the fact that i have that asian academic mentality. otherwise, i'm an abercrombie-wearing, metallica-headbanging...girl...quite contradictory actually.

hahahah wowww. Is this all Asians here..??

I rep Beijing and Tokyo :D

soysauce... Chinese dramas are boring. Korean is the way to go...

aka BANANA! hahaha.
i go to a school with a large (well, actually dominating) jewish population, so maybe my academic mentality was hatched from that and not from being asian?
i love being asian.
and i love asian dramas. c, k, j are all amazing. my favorite is probably 1 litre of tears. and meteor garden -- classic!

soysauce56, i'd LOVE to see a documentary about ED students. let's make one together!!! do you live near philly?? sooooo many kids apply from where i live, so it's perfect! i live on the main line, so every other person applies to penn ED. it's probably too easy to make a documentary.

yea seriously, any non-asians??????????????????????? Penn's more diverse than that!

anyone listen to Big Bang (Korean) or Guang Liang?

that documentary would be SOO funny (if we got in), otherwise it would just be depressing

and white people (or at least most of my friends) tend to sleep earlier than asian people do, while we would rather be wasting time on this thread lol

guang liang!! haha. i heard about guang liang through a half asian who doesn't speak chinese. sad, i know.

yeah...i don't sleep. i'm done all of my homework and stuff. i just ...don't sleep.
CC is kind of amazing.

I'm from Henan..lived in Japan, lived in bunch of places in U.S., oh yeah lived in Upenn cuz both of my parents worked there. but now both of them got other jobs..so i don't get any benefits :( I dont' really have asian mentality in academics and not socially either... I really can't sum up myself haha. But i'm pretty much open to all kinds of cultures and ways of life..if that makes sense at all.

Yeah, I heard Korean dramas are good..but I just dont' like reading subs.

haha crystalpineapple! i absolutely LOVE dramas! (meteor garden.. ive watched like a 100 times!)
i refuse to be a banana, i love being chinese! (cantonese too! hong kong!) i admit i was a banana precisely two years ago, but im a hardcore super asian now =) you won't be able to tell looking at me though (i don't dress fobby, unfortunately).
though i'm chinese, i'm really into korean dramas/boybands (hence my username). i love big bang! they'll be in LA for a few months next year... so i'm excited to be two hours away from them lol
(this is really funny/weird to be discussing this on cc)

honestly, i dont' even know what hw I have to do for tomorrow yet T_T. god stupid apps

hahaha. considering the thread name is "WHY IS PENN YOUR FIRST CHOICE"
i love our digression into the topic of asian dramas and being asian.

soysauce56, my parents used to both work there too, but now only my mom works there. i still get tuition benefits. yay for not being in debt forever if i go to penn!

gosh i really hope we all get in. i love you guys already.

EDIT: weird. my post is before dbsklove's?

if u guys talk about asian boybands...then i'll be clueless...

Hm I live in Minnesota... so there aren't a lot of Asians. Well specifically East Asian.... And I go to a private school where I'm the only Asian girl in my grade (79 people).. So I've lost a lot of ..fobbiness since junior high including academically..
