can anybody give me a breakdown of the different types of dorms e.g. suite style? I'm going there this summer for the Portfolio Plus Art Program and I 'm really excited....what should I expect?

My D is attending two sessions of summer school this summer and was told that due to construction on the South 40, housing would be on the North Side, which is usually upperclassman housing. Below are links regarding the North Side -

Washington University Office of Residential Life

The Village - The Village Images

But, when looking up the links above, I came across the link below that says summer housing will be in Gregg Hall on the South 40 - so, who knows!!

Summer Programs and Conference Services - Summer School Housing 2009

Also pradeepomc, I came across this link regarding housing for research. Says the information will be available March 1, 2009 -

Summer Programs and Conference Services - Research Housing

Also do most students live on campus and for how many year?

I attended portfolio plus last year and I loved it! We stayed in Lopata house in the village which is usually sophomore/junior housing. You are housed in the same building as the students going there for the summer scholars program.
Last year Portfolio Plus had its own floor in the building!
It was a modern dorm. There were four single rooms and two bathrooms in all of the suites in Lopata house.
YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE PPLUS IT IS SO AWESOME!

thanks artista! could you tell me more about the program?

I live in Liggett/Koenig and it's nice.
However, don't pick sub-free. Biggest mistake of my life.
Your social life will go to ruin.

sub free is good for some, not good for others. i lived on a subfree floor my freshman year and loved it. our floor was very social. many people chose to drink, but the drinking never took place on the floor. it is a very individual choice that is right for some people. for those people who chose sub free housing and don't like it, then my opinion is that they didn't do enough research on it, and due to the randomness of rooming situations, that they got a bad straw.

most people who live in sub free do love it. wash u is well known for having great dorms, majority of people who live in the dorms, and a great community in them. no matter where you go to school, you can never guarantee that you'll 100% love your floor.
