Hey I just had some questions about the University of Delaware.

I applied to Delaware and it's pretty high up on my list so I was wondering:

How is Delaware's reputation viewed by other teens, young people, parents, adults, employers?
Is there anywhere I can find a list of alumni and where they found jobs or what they did after graduating (careers or grad school - what grad schools) - specifically business?
How is the social scene for someone who is outgoing and social but not necessarily into drinking or partying?

Thanks in advance!

Heyy JMon123,
Delaware is my frist choice! Just crossin' my fingers and waiting to here back from them.
-- UD's reputation is very good amongst almost everyone, not only is it an affordable state school, but it has the prestige of some provate schools. Also, the acceptance rate is low...
-- As for lists of Alumi and how well their doing now...go to UD's web site and look in the archives anything labeled "UD in the News" is updates about alumni.
-- The social scene...from what I understand is great, when i visited everyone was extremely friendly. I'm not sure I'll be drinking either and their seems to be a lot of activites and things going on that do not require you to drink.

I can only answer your question partially, so here goes . . . I have a friend who was a middle school principal. Every year they received hundreds of applications for a few teaching positions. He said anyone whose resume indicated a degree from UD jumped to the top of the pile because they were well prepared.

As far as the social scene goes, my son has made friends with all the kids on his floor in Russell. They do a variety of things together both on campus and in town and they do not drink either. So you will find other kids who feel the same as you do - you can enjoy yourself without drinking.

it depends where you are in the country... in new england people don't even really know it exists. i'm not a big drinker and yes there are people who will do other things with you...but its hard to find them, at least it was for me. town is just main st, without a car its hard to find stuff to do. i'm sure other people have had more positive experiences than i have, and i'm not trying to give you a negative view of delaware but this was just my personal experience. good luck to everyone!

Thanks for all your input!

I was also wondering if anyone knew how employers, individuals viewed the business program at University of Delaware...

I'm from New England, a business major and I'd like to work in Boston. I know that many people don't know too much about UD but those that do, always say, wow - that's a good school... I'm flexible enough to understand that maybe my first job will be somewhere where UD is better known, but I figure once I do amazing at that job, I'll be able to go anywhere!

popsicle, u must be talking to different people, because I'm currently going to school in Boston and when I tell people where I transferred from they either go "thats a party school right" or "wait.. delaware has a university?" so just giving you a heads up.

To each his own. I turned down a great scholarship at BU to come to UD and I don't have one second's regret. I'm not going to argue crime statistics with you, but I'm well aquainted with BU, have several friends there now, and having spent the first 14 years of my life in Dorchester, I can't imagine why you felt unsafe in Newark, but safe in Boston. I don't take stupid risks in any city and I know that crime can happen in the most buccolic settings (like UVM). But as I said, to each his own.
