I know there have already been questions asked and answered regarding the student body at emory, but i'm still only getting a vague idea of what students are like. I'm wondering if there are (liberal) political groups and activism on campus (I know most people consider themselves liberal, but I'm talking about actualy activism), and groups such as SHARE (gay rights) or Amnesty International. Also, from what I've read, it seems like the students at Emory are either very rich or quite poor...is there a prominent population of plain old middle-class as well, or no? and is there room at the university for slightly artsy, hippie types (I'm not talking all-out, but sort of a vassar type of student, if anyone knows what I mean). THanks very much! any input would be very appreciated, as i'm strongly considering going to emory next year.

Yup, Emory has Amnesty International. Emory Gay Pride is also a pretty popular organization, and there are always fliers floating around for demonstrations, silent vigils, etc. especially to protest the war in Iraq.
And there are definitely lots of "plain old middle-class" people--I'm a proud member of that "club." :-)
And of course, need I say it, definitely try to visit if you haven't already done so.

hshtein, what do you define as middle class? Tuition is $40k+ a year for many......

well right, but people get financial/merit aid
