For current students- to RA or not to RA?

OK so I'm a freshman and everyone's talking about where they wanna live next year. I wanna live in Morrison or Carmichael if I didn't RA. However, I have a full ride here, so I was thinking of RA-ing, which would mean I'd get room and board paid on top of my scholarship, which would pay for my summer and semester travels which I otherwise dont have the money for and would have to do all loans.

BUT I'm thinking it would take away from the fun of college life due to having to live with all freshman in a crappy dorm, have to be home every night by 2am and not drink, and not have a roomie. I've gone back and forth on this so much...it seems that a couple grand would outweigh the costs...or should I wait til junior year when everyones moving off campus and then it wouldnt matter as much where i lived on campus anyway...

agh! any thoughts...experiences?

It'd probably be smarter to get one of the on campus jobs/work study jobs. I get emails through honors for some reason about job opps opening up, next time I get one I'll forward it on to you.

Could you possibly by an RA on North Campus? I know my RA's job isn't as hard compared to the ones on South Campus, just because she mostly deals with upperclassmen who've been at college for a bit.

I don't think you can choose...ugh. And thanks girl...send me that stuff over facebook that'd be great. An easy on campus job would be great, but I don't qualify for work study :-\ do you? b/c of our scholarships...?

You are silly. There are plenty on campus jobs that aren't a part of work study. There are a ton of girls in my sorority that work for Campus Rec and my roommate might work in Davis next semester. From what I've seen from my RA, he makes some money, but not thatttttt much. Being an RA on South Campus does suck the fun out of weekends. However, he does get his single room at a way discounted price. I think you should definitely RA at Manly...

yes i should be studying.

Nah, I don't qualify for work study, but probably once a month they advertise some obscure job for like $7.50 an hour, 15 hours a week.

You should pick a job where your work stays within the hours that you pick. RAing is full time, if you think about it! I do think you'd make a good RA, though. I was actually thinking randomly the other day that you'd make a good student body President. You've got spunk! ;)

What is work study?

Cloying, did I mention I love you? haha im working on an SBP campaign this semester...it's something to think about... but I doubt it. Yeah maybe I'll get just a regular work study job...hmm...any ideas about where to search for those kind of jobs? A library one would be soo easy.

And annn, i love that you are on CC giving me advice when you should be studying. ps hope astronomy went well!!
