I'm an enterning Weinberg freshman, and I'd like to transfer to a different school within Northwestern. I realize I probably should have made this move earlier, but this summer has been a series of shifts in my goals, but I'm fairly sure I want to transfer. Should I wait until I meet with my academic advisor during NSW, or should I go ahead and contact people at the different school? I'd wait until second quarter to make the transfer, but I'm just a little concerned about the freshmen seminars; I'm afraid they won't count for anything once I actually make the transfer out of Weinberg.

Anyone been in the same boat or know what to do?

It's probably too late to change your peer advising group (it's based off of your freshman seminar) but because NSW activities include school specific information, it might be better to go ahead and contact those people so you can be sure to attend those events and get info about that school and its requirements. Since you don't register until NSW, you'll probably be able to drop your freshman seminar for another class, so don't worry about that.

I'd go ahead and contact the necessary people--no harm in getting it over with. Why would you want to wait until 2nd quarter? I would go ahead and do it now if you're sure.

hey i'm in the same boat and a girl told me it was too late now and that the admissions people had told her to talk to her academic advisor when she arrived on campus

Well yes it's too late for the admissions ppl to do anything, but the school reps should be able to help. One of my peer advisees is already changing programs.

i've also thought about transferring (to SESP). im actually almost set on it doubling in SESP (LOC) and Weinberg (Econ). however, I'm not going to transfer freshman year, or at least not until the end of the year. I want to take advantage of that freshman seminar b/c its a small class and it will be easier to have a great relationship with your professor. Idk, no other school has the seminar at NU (i think?) so I want to take advantage of it then transfer. I'm just going to probably take the intro LOC courses as one of my electives. their distros are the same as Weinberg.
