what do u think makes bucknell different?

My D is a sophmore at Bucknell and I can answer your question - from a parent’s perspective. My D turned down Lehigh, William and Mary, University of Richmond, and other GREAT schools to go to Bucknell. She told me if she had known how great Bucknell was she would have applied ED! Music to my ears.

What makes Bucknell different
- orientation (check out website for videos of color wars, pep rally, etc)
- academics (small claases - very involved professors - in fact one professor stopped my D in the gym to tell her how great she had done on a midterm - nice!)
- students (smart, well-rounded, and spirited - sporting events, concerts, event are packed)
- activities (so so many - Bucknell brings entertainment to you!)
- Dorms - (gorgeous)
- opportunities - to study abroad, be a TA, orientation advisor, externships, internships, etc.
My D just loves Bucknell - and as a parent, the school has addressed each and every one of my concerns!

My son is a freshman at Bucknell. There seems to be a tremendous transformation that takes place during the first month of school that allows students to become Bucknellians. My son’s five-day orientation period, according to him, was the most important part of this transformation. The enthusiasm for Bucknell is genuine. When we went out for Parents-Family Weekend in October we made a lot of observations and talked with both students and parents about what made Bucknell special. The response that came back over and over was that Bucknell’s size has a lot to do with the reason why students seem happy. With 3,500 undergrads, students get to have a liberal arts education at a school that is large enough to provide lots of activities and things to do while at the same time maintain small class sizes academically. That coupled with the fact that my son likes the kids that he lives with on his dorm floor has had a lot to do with his overall happiness. That bond, according to him, has been one of the most important factors in his satisfaction. Bucknell gets a lot of things right. From a parents perspective–both my wife and I feel as if we’re in the loop with what’s going on. It certainly is one of the most beautiful campuses to be on, as well. My son was a top student-athlete in high school who was accepted at Georgetown, Colgate, Lafayette, Union,& William & Mary. He turned them down to attend Bucknell. Once he came on to the campus and stayed for a weekend–after meeting professors, students, and staying overnight at all the other schools–he was convinced that Bucknell was the place to be. He is absolutely convinced he made the right choice. Bucknell just seems to have more spirit about everything that goes on inside and outside the classroom. As parents we have been very satisfied with the Bucknell experience–it’s GREAT place.
