For DC residents only

The DC govt started the DCTAG (District of Columbia Tuition Assistance Grant) program in 1999. You have to apply for it from DC. If approved, the grant will make up the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition (up to $10000 per year) for 5 fives if you attend a state college in any of the 50 states.

You have to be a DC resident for 12 months prior to the beginning of freshman year. The website is:

This program was intiated because it is cheaper for the District and Congress to pay the difference betwen in-state and out-of-state tution costs (up to $10,000 as Dufus notes) for DC residents than to fund the University of the District of Columbia so it can be raised to a fourth or fifth tier college. And btw, it's for use at public schools only except for private schools in the DC Metro area and any HBCU nationwide.

what about if a student leaves school for a few years and moves to DC and later applies to an OOS school. Or what if a person lives in DC post college graduation and wants to use this program for graduate school.

so you get $10,000 if you live in DC and go to Georgetown?

No. It is only for out-of-state public universities. On the DCTAG website, it says "You must currently be a DC resident and have lived in the District of Columbia for at least 12 months prior to the beginning of your freshman year of college."

And btw, it's for use at public schools only except for private schools in the DC Metro area and any HBCU nationwide.

Georgetown is a private school in the DC metro area
