For EA at most schools, is it okay to send in ACT scores after the deadline?

I'm unhappy with my June and September ACT scores, and I plan to take the ACT w/writing again in October and the SAT as well. If my scores arrive past the Nov.1 and Nov.15 deadlines, will they still be counted? Also, if I have to roll with my current scores, what looks better: 31 composite with 8 writing or 30 composite with 11 writing?

Check with each score to see when is the last acceptable test scores. Many schools with EA deadline on Nov 1 would accept October test scores if submitted directly.

ok thanks

Not an expert here, but I would say submit 31 for sure or re-take in Oct. That is what my D is doing. Good luck.

^ That is a good point. At least one adcom said one should submit current score even if there is new score pending. You may indicate on your application you have pending score. This way would avoid delay in reviewing your application. When the application is incomplete (certain item missing), the adcom may put it aside.

Vast majority of ED and EA schols with Nov 1 app deadline accept October tests even if they arrive after Nov 1. In fact, most of those even accept the Nov SAT test. However, there is a small minority that wants scores in its hands by Nov 1. When you are checking your colleges, the ones that require scores by app deadline will tell you that. If it is unclear when checking, check to see if the college accepts the October ACT for EA or ED, if it does tests can be sent after Nov 1 because the ACT Oct scores are not even released until second week of Nov.

Also note that even if the college requires test scores in its hands by Nov 1, you can get the Oct SAT to the school in time if you designate it in your test application as a college to receive scores upon release (as one of your free sends). That is the fastest form of delivery (scores are usually sent to the college a day or two before they are even released to you. For schools with Nov 15 deadline, you can wait to send Oct SAT until you get the scores but with ACT you likely want to identify the college in the test as one to receive scores upon release to assure they can arrive in time.
