I've looked all over UF's website trying to find an answer to this question but I've gotten no luck so far. Every sample engineering schedule I've looked at in the registrar includes ENC 3254 in some way. In addition, some of the schedules even put asterisks next to it stating that this course must be passed with a C or better in order to continue in the major. However, when I view any list stating the requisite courses for engineering students, ENC 3254 is never mentioned. Is ENC 3254 simply included because it fulfills UF's general education requirements, or is it really a required pre-professional course for the college of engineering?

Thanks.

generally its in there for GE writing req. if it has an asterisk, its likely specific to that major. if it isn’t, they just very strongly advise it.

I’m pretty sure it’s required since for most engineering majors there is a slot allotted in the suggested course schedule to take some sort of composition class the first semester and then ENC3254 the next. I’m taking ENC3254 in the fall even though I have already satisfied the composition requirement, so it’s not for the GE req. It was mentioned as a requirement at preview as well.

This course, I’m pretty sure, IS required. My ISIS shows this as a requirement.

However, as a side note, there are two classes that can fulfill the ENC3254 requirement. Obviously ENC3254 can, but also a class called Technical Writing, which is ENC2210, can take its place. I took Tech Writing this summer and got the requirement out of the way. I talked to multiple advisers and they all said that the two were interchangeable.

i was told by advisor that you can swap this class for enc 2210
