FOR EVERY PERSON ON CC: Combining Our Potential

1- This is going to fail.

2- Since we're so smart why don't we make money for ourselves.

3- Who's down with epic poker team?

4- Who wants to count cards?

5- Who wants to welcome these members to reality?

4- Who wants to count cards?

Speaking of reality, the MIT card counting exploits took place in the early 90's. Card counting isn't really possible anymore (if your intent is profit). Unless you mean just for fun, then that's cool too. :)

(to Sheed)

Wow 4k posts. o.O

You're definitely someone highly experienced with CC:
Why exactly will this fail? And since you present yourself above all of us, why don't you welcome us to "reality?"

Why not at least give it a shot?

communist revolution mang.

Most of us are very anxious neurotic people who care wayy to much about grades and colleges(me included). But it sounds like a good idea and of course in the typical CC way I'll say it'll be good for applications! :)

For those of you interested:

My name is Tim Tan and I'm from Washington. Just wanted to thank you all for joining! I believe we can really achieve something amazing together.

Just wanted to tell you guys about some of the suggestions we've had:

1) We all start a program in each of our areas (having the same name obviously) and we do projects/comm service.... and if it gets big, it'll be known nationwide since all of us start it in all of our areas.

2) Starting a website that features a non-profit organization each month (or two months) and encourages schools, churches, etc from around the country to donate money or whatever the organization is asking for.

One thing we need, however, is a name! Anything in mind?

Keep 'em coming!

I'm in! I don't have facebook, so if anyone can PM me for my e-mail address...

@ Tim Tan- Hi! I'm Ch

Sounds like a good idea

I just joined today
I would start a program in my area next year

Yesterday, my friend (thebeef) and I were talking about CC and how so many amazing people were on it. Then, we suddenly came up with this idea:

What if we took a little bit of focus off discussing college and put a tiny bit (like 5-10%) on other issues, such as improving our communities? Since CC brings together the brightest minds from around the country (I really can't think of another organization or forum that has so many outstanding high schoolers), why don't we use that to do something great, something amazing?

Think about it. As corny and cliche as it may sound, we are the future. We represent the ambitious, determined, motivated young adults of America with our drive for the most prestigious universities we have to offer. If there's anyone that can change the face of America, it's us.

This thread is mostly just to see if anyone is interested. If you guys are for this, then we'll go from there and get this idea rolling.

So, what do you guys think? Should we give it a go?

You said absolutely nothing at all in that post. Spoken like a true politician.

It's a referendum for a committee to look into a vote for the formation of a panel on the development of a division to create a task force spearheading an effort on doing something.

Haha

Piccolo-Almost a compliment...

Too bad I don't want to be a politician. Seems like I would do a great job =P

I think that we should do the website thing. Becuase it takes long to establish your own organization with all the legal stuff, I've tried.

Someone should make the website, and everyone who is in it put up fliers for it in your school and around your town. Every month, when we change the organization, we do a project for that organization in our town and once a month we can like recognize students on our website that have been doing phenomenal community service work through the organizations we support and give them some sort of award or prize.

Good idea, Courtney8. I'm in. Now for a name... We could call it RAVE (Recognising and Aiding Volunteer Efforts). idk, I don't think it makes any sense, it was just an idea. Sorry, I'm really tired and rambling. The website is a great idea though.

i'll join. since I don't have facebook PM me for email address.

So basically we are going to do nothing but discuss what could the world be like and feel all good inside because we had ideas about changing the world. If you want to change the world I hear the military is running low on recruits.

thats a real positive attitude somead896.

"be the change you wish to see in the world"-Gandhi

bump f

Sounds interesting, I think I'll join the Facebook group.

The name isn't important. I would love to help, but what you need is a solid game plan. Take one issue, which most people agree on. Then, everyone would pitch in ideas to help with the chosen problem. The facebook could be used to track progress.
pm me as well, though- i'm facebook free.
ignore the haters and pessimists- they're trying to keep me from starting a program to increase minority enrollment in advanced local high school classes, but I- and you- should really try to be (or engineer, I guess) the change we want to see in the world.

I agree with you inconspicuous.s.n.,

a solid gameplan is what every good organizatiom needs. As for the issue, I'd like to volunteer the access to education in underdeveloped countries. After all, we're on a forum about college and we all go to school, no? I think this is one of the most important issues right now, because these kids, if given the right tools and education, could relly help to make the world a better place.

If I had listened to pessimists every time they said something, I'd never do anything of my life! We just need to keep on trying, until the results come to us. Doing our best and what we think is right is the key to success. It's really great that you all joined! We'll be able to do a lot of things together.
