For Everyone attending Commonwealth School (Boston) in the Fall!!!

First, congrats!!! This is a forum where you can post whatever you like (i.e. questions, comments,etc...) concerning Commonwealth!
Also, anyone going to be in the class of 2014?

My daughter was just accepted. It’s a great-looking place and you might end up seeing her in the fall. Congratulations to you!

Thanks! I’m really excited for September and I will probably end up seeing her because of Commonwealth’s small size!

Very likely. She was also admitted to BUA and Winsor but barring any major change of mind she’ll be at Commonwealth in the fall.

Cool. The revisit days made me really excited for September!

My daughter is also going to be there. I wish I could go back to that kind of highschool! I am very happy for all of you. Parents: we might meet in June!

my son is a public school kid who is not the superstar, “gifted” student I imagine attends commonwealth. further, he sometimes struggles with staying focused in classes and struggles with classroom socialization. on the other hand, he gets very good grades, reads adult literary fiction old and new (all Vonnegut, Fitzgerald, Hemingway), is passionate about history and has been from an early age. He is also obsessed with hip-hop and basketball and has team experience in soccer.

I worry that Commonwealth is too much of a stretch and that I have introduced him to something that is more about my wish for him (for me?) than about whether it is a good fit for him. He says he’s conflicted but would be open to applying. I imagine that the competition for admission is so high that I hate to put him through something he has no chance of attaining. you can probably see here that I am exhibiting intense conflict myself. I certainly don’t want to be a stage mother type; on the other hand, as high school approaches I see how much I want to protect him and give him the best opportunity to get support for his love of literature, history and writing. I am not sure he would get that kind of support in the large local public school. Any thoughts? Time is very short to get this process going. Thank you!

How about Fall 2011?

My daughter just received her acceptance. I would love to hear from current students or parents about their Commonwealth experiences.

Thanks.

Clemintina - Your son may find he is more able to focus and function in the classroom in a setting with more kids that are like him. Commonwealth also is pretty savvy in terms of not accepting kids who won’t thrive. So, I hope he applied!

Hi Gertrudestein

I have one child at Commonwealth and an older child who is a Commonwealth graduate.

I hope you and your daughter are doing a “revisit”.

My husband and I feel truly blessed that our children have been given this amazing opportunity. I have nothing but good things to say about their experience.

As with all secondary schools it’s mostly about fit. I would say it’s a highly intellectual place and the community is very supportive. The students and faculty have a close relationship.

The coursework is very rigorous, but the school offers lots of support so no one falls behind.

Please PM me if you would like more information!

We accepted and are very excited. I think my daughter and Commonwealth will be a good fit. See you in the fall.
