For everyone who is anxious...

-The atmosphere/culture is just perfect for me
-The freedom MIT offers for classes/majors/housing choices. Just the overall way that you can really choose what you want to do.
-Research/UROPs and awesome classes
:)

The crazy culture (and counter-culture) is PERFECT for me.

MIT is replete with strangely brilliant and brilliantly strange students and profs. I enjoy more than anything communicating and being with brilliant people.

Mens et Manus- Mind and Hand. Classes, from what I’ve seen, are not just memorization. You have to THINK to do PSETs and tests. Though these are difficult, it’s for the best. Hard work builds camradderie.

I’m not juggling the pros and cons of other universities vs. MIT because I will go there without a thought if I get in, but I will list my 3 reasons why I like MIT:

1.) They’re good at making things blow up in beakers, and I like blowing things up in beakers.
2.) They’re good at making things change colors in beakers, and I like making things change color in beakers.
3.) They’re good at making things… Just making things, and I like to make things.
4.) (I know I was only supposed to do three.) Boston’s atmosphere and night life, and, yes, I am aware that MIT is in Cambridge, but come on… It’s RIGHT NEXT to Boston, so this is a valid point.

Oh yeah! And Wheeler’s Black Label Vegan Ice Cream Parlor in Boston! That is a valid reason.

1) I’m interested in neuroscience and artificial intelligence and MIT is awesome for those
2) I want to join the Varsity Hack Team (hehe)
3) I love random projects and building stuff, plus the collaborative emvironment

I play Football, Basketball, and Baseball. Adrenaline rush in competitive sports is a pretty damn good distraction from college apps in my eyes.

Also my school’s final exams start the 15th so I really hope I get my EA results back before then.

@vhiremath- house music is the best-dirty south’s pretty sick but Laidback Luke’s #1 for me. I’ll hopefully see both them at Ultra next year :D

As I wait for decisions to come out, I already told my self I’m getting denied/deferred so when I do find out I’ll be either a.extremely happy and in shock if i got in or b. indifferent since I expected to be deferred/rejected anyway.

pretty pessimistic right^?

I’m absolutely sure I won’t get accepted EA, but I don’t think I’ll be denied.

@ Respectfully

Yeah I know what you mean, I play lacrosse and it’s a great distraction to not only this admissions thing but anything else in life lol.
My finals start on the 15th as well, it’d be very nice to have it back the weekend before so I can get over w/e the decision is.

@wthalexis1

but, in my opinion, electro ftw. i can’t get enough of electro. look up “The Clap” by “Wolfgang Gartner”. don’t skip ahead, let it build and let yourself be relinquished in pure ecstasy when the electro bass line hits. :-)

IHTFP

Here are only a few strange habits I noticed through this whole college search:

This may be rather cliche, but I listened to a single piece by Bach the entire way through the application process; however, I would listen to different renditions depending on my mood and what I was writing about. Some would be smooth and slow while others would be more abrupt and quick.

Also, I would sit and tweak both my 100 word essays so they would have exactly 666 characters after I noticed that my first essay written had 1,666 characters. I wasn’t able to continue this trend on to the other essays, unfortunately.

I listened to Empire State of Mind by Jay-Z quite frequently throughout the process and now I’ve moved off the Blueprint 3 back to my old Immortal Technique stuff.

I listened to Bach’s Cantata 147, Ode to Joy, and Chopin’s Prelude No.15 OVEN AND OVER until I finished it.

@Respectfully
I’m with you on the Blueprint 3 and especially the Immortal Technique.

Didn’t listen to classical during this process, but it would have been beyond neat to finish an essay to the series of cannon blasts at the end of the 1812 Overture. lol

For some reason my anxiousness has really gone down, I think it’s either my growing patience or a sort of numbness haha

@neogreen:
“1) I’m interested in neuroscience and artificial intelligence and MIT is awesome for those”
LOL omg HI 5! We should be twins that’s what I’m interested in too!! It would be awesome if we both got in :slight_smile: What type of neuro research are you interested in? Have you read Hawkins’ book? It’s really interesting! What other colleges are you looking at?

I listened to a lot of Kaki King while writing my essays. :)

Also, wow, a lot of people have finals already! Mine aren’t until mid-January. Did you all start before Labor Day? Or are you on trimesters?

I’m in college (Early Enrollment), so I get a happy week of finals just like college kids.

…And then I get a happy three weeks of winter break. :p

There are 9 days left until decisions are released.
Throw me random ideas of things you think I’ve never done in life (reasonable ideas of course) and I will take the best 9 ideas and do one a day to distract myself.
Also, throw out your 9 favorite songs you think I should listen to for the next 9 days.
=)
please.
