"For Here, All Are One!"

A word of congratulations to the Boston College Class of 2011 that graduated on Monday, May 23rd, 2011 with their final walk down Linden Lane - where it all began with the Freshman Convocation in September 2007.

Dean David Quigley from the College of Arts and Sciences in his final address to the undergraduates offered his thoughts covering the 44 months of the undergraduate experience. A process which seemed so long and arduous on entry now seems to have been so fleeting on exit … just 44 months.

As Fr. President William Leahy, SJ stated in one of his addresses, “May you all remember this place. This place.”

While most of the audience that visits College Confidential is on the entering side as opposed to the exit door of their undergraduate University process, remember that the 2007 class slogan embodies the spirit of this place : “For Here, All Are One!”

Go set the world aflame.

Congratulations to all the newly minted Eagles.

Are you done scottj? Hopefully you’ll still come by here once in a while.

scottj, beautiful message but you are not done, right? You still have one more at BC, you have to stay on this forum. When my D was still in high school and applying to colleges, your wisdom and advice carried us through and helped us so much on deciding on BC. You can’t go, you can’t. I am also counting on your advice regarding my other kids and their schools because your knowledge about the universities doesn’t just stop at BC and especially now since your newly graduated BC senior is heading off to Stanford, you have to stay. Besides, the other forums have their resident experts (UMich has Alexandre, Tufts has Dan, W&M has the admission counselor, MIT has Chris, UVa has its person etc.)

To all current and future students as well as prospective students,

Boston College is truly an exemplary university and embodies many social values that have become lost with the evolution of technology. One common mantra that was stated during my orientation and has echoed throughout my four years here is, “Men and Women for others.” While these words are seemingly just words, many eagles embody this saying. I personally volunteered my time without regard to anything but to help those around me who are less fortunate. Looking back on these four years, I have come to realize how much I have grown and developed as a person.

To those of you who may or may not have the opportunity to live and study at Boston College, there are always proverbs that can be taken away and this is certainly one of them. While we all may part on different roads and some of us land at places other than the heights, there are values that we all must share, that of community, spirituality, and social justice.

As we all embark on our journey, whether it’s starting a new job, entering a new college, or just beginning the college search; we must never forget what binds us to our core, our family, friends, and those surrounding us.

Boston College is truly a special place that I will miss dearly, but never forget. As we all go our different ways to “set the world aflame” always remember the slogan given to the class of 2011, “For Here, All Are One,” a place where all past, present, and future eagles are accepted and a place that binds us all.

I sincerely congratulate all of my Boston College Class of 2011 classmates and wish all of my classmates as well as future eagles luck in whatever they may aspire to do.

Time to set the world aflame.

Congrats to the '11’s. (And to the slogan-writer; it captures the essence of BC perfectly.)

Dear vinceh : Will still be here on College Confidential’s Boston College board as a combined alumnus parent/active parent at the campus.

Dear collegecarla : Thanks for the kind words and yes, the “graduate” is now moving into his PhD career work as a Cardinal - somehow, the connection is all too obvious, wouldn’t you say? Moving from “For Here, All Are One” to “Be the Tree” is not a natural transition!

Dear miragemage : We have followed your four year evolution at Boston College right down to the maturation of your writing style. My very best wishes for your next steps.

Dear bluebayou : As always, your postings are well received!

Dear Class of 2011 : Again, congratulations!

scottj, it’s great to know you will still be here. Your recent advice regarding my d’s indecision to drop out of CSOM to focus solely on her second major was extremely helpful, and I’m happy to report she came to the decision on her own to retain the double major. She also secured, through BC, a paid internship this summer at a prestigious employer – in part due to her double major and campus activity involvement. Additionally, she has met some amazing people during her two years at BC!

Best of luck to BC’s Class of 2011!!
