Hello, I am a junior in high school and I plan on being a history major. As a bit of background, I am an excellent history student and I got a 5 on APWH and an 800 on the SAT subject test. I am taking AP us history this year. For the purpose of credit and demostrating skill to very selective universities, should I 1) self study for the AP Euro exam (school doesnt offer) or 2) should I take my schools AP human geography course and take that exam. Fyi, I will study hard for a 5 on either of these exams. Which is better to show colleges my interests and skills?
Thanks!
What would you be taking in place of AP Human Geography?
History is a big tent. I think if you are interested in the subject matter then HUG would be great and very useful for a history major. If all you want is to rack up another AP credit then it doesn’t matter much which it is.
@sumptuous
APHG Iwould be an after school course online.
If you can get some kind of credit for it by putting it on your app as an external course, I think it’s an excellent decision and that’s better than self-studying AP Euro. Otherwise, AP HG has a bit of a reputation for being an AP used to “pad” applications, and AP Euro is the better choice if you can’t make the class “official.”
