For INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS !! need aware policy?

Hello!

I'm an international student studying outside of the U.S

and as many of you do I really need to get some financial aid from U.S universities.

However, since I'm planning to apply to Ivies and some other great top schools it seems there is less chance to get financial aid (especially that I'm an international student)

On Brown homepage it says
"We will continue to consider foreign applicants on a need-aware basis, that is, Brown will take into account their financial need in making admission decisions"

So MY question is how much does applying for financial aid affect colleges' admission decisions?

Any experiences with financial aid?

ARRH ~ I will really appreciate some thoughts here~

woo...please any comments ?

The need-blind colleges will not look at your financial need while considering your app. The need-aware colleges WILL look at your fin need while considering your app, and will factor that into their final decision.

You do the math.

so obviously if my fin need is greater than other applicants' needs, then i have less chance on those need aware colleges ?

Yes. But how strong are your other credentials? If colleges like what they see (ie. a determined, motivated young person), chances are they'll pay up.

Thank you tetrisfan for all your replies

by saying credentials, hmm.. so do colleges take like SAT or ACT scores, GPA, ECs into consideration if they think fin costs for holding a student like me in their application pools is too much?

what factor really makes me to get such a fin aid?

See, the number one thing you need to get across during the whole admissions process is why YOU need to go to that college (ie. why it is a fit for you). If you can sufficiently prove that the college is a match for you and deserves you, then they'll be more than happy to get you there, and will try lure you with fin aid. At least that's how I look at it. You might want a more qualified opinion though. Basically, you just gotta show the colleges that you DESERVE it.
