Wrestling - Ippolito, Feldman record back-to-back pins to beat Merchant Marine

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(1/9/07)--Dan Ippolito and Garrett Feldman record back-to-back pins in the final two matches of the night as Coast Guard came back to beat rival Merchant Marine 26-15 and secure a point in the all important race for the Superintendent's Trophy.

Merchant Marine led the Bears 15-14 heading into the final two matches of the night.

Ippolito, a freshman, recorded a pin at 133 pounds at 4:44 to give the Bears a 20-15 lead.

Feldman, a junior, secured the win with a pin at 5:40 of the match at 141 pounds as the Bears evened their record at 1-1 on the season.

Bryan Radik, Kevin Whalen, Colin Boyle and Kevin Robinson also registered wins for the Bears.

Coast Guard now leads the Superintendent's Trophy race 4-3. The Bears have never lost the trophy since its inception. Two points will be on the line when the Bears host Merchant Marine in men's and women's swimming on January 20th at 1 p.m.

As I have said more than once, and I will articulate again, Coast Guard should be embarrassed beyond all recognition to lose to KP in anything. If CGA sent half of every team away for a third of their sophomore year and two thirds of their junior year (they would probably never find their way back -- but I digress) with little or no workout equipment and only reassembled its teams right before the season, they would never win anything against anybody.

So, gloating just reinforces how little CGA has to be proud of and it makes it just that much sweeter when we do win.

Even when there are, its not like being at school and there is no substitute for working out with the team or team mates in the off-season. CGA has a huge advantage in that capacity. And if you're a wrestler its not like you can work take downs on the 3nd mate.

Simple answer Rep: I send the entire team magic boodle during the season & paint my face blue & white on game day. :D

Some ships have pretty nice workout equipment, some don't. Son's ship had a beat up old bike & a treadmill that would lock up & throw you off. Some of the crew took their own bikes and would ride alot when they were in ports.

Also, as a member of the wrestling team, I would like to say that KP has little to none recruiting ability either, most wrestlers who want to serve go elsewhere, thus when we don't have a 133 or 141 pounder (those two pins to win a match) we take them out of the regiment a week before the match. The fact that those two amateur wrestlers lasted as long as they did against Coasties who have been practicing all year, have been in shape and haven't been out at sea, kinda says something about CGA huh?

Hmmmm don't know much about wrestling...but have a question. Does USMMA have any ice hockey teams (club??). My son is a runner and avid ice hockey player.
