okay, i want to major in musical theatre but i have no idea what COLLEGE i should go to.. it would be awesome if you could write about your experience as a mt major at your college..

if you could tell me what college it is, where it is, and just basic info about it.. like theatre class sizes, voice training opportunities, how big the competition is, how they helped you senior year when you had to go out to the 'real world' (agents, auditions, jobs, etc) just anything you would want to tell a person you were trying to convince to come to your school lol

thanks so much and i would GREATLY appreciate it if you could help me!!

I suggest you start in TWO places.

ONE.....see the subforums for individual MT schools at the top of this forum? Under each of those, usually current students or parents of students have shared about the programs and so such information is already on this forum.

TWO...I don't have the time at the moment to do a search to give you the link, but use the Search function and we have a thread here called "Parents and current students share experiences" or something very similar to that which is what you are looking for.

When I discovered CC during the college search for my D, I read every bit of information here including the subforums as SoozieVT suggests. It took a while but was VERY valuable. Some info I printed and filed for my D to review. Reading about the individual schools really helped get a feel for which MIGHT suit her. (I say might because it is only initial research!) I did this initial screening because of her overloaded schedule with school/rehearsals, etc., and kept her updated with what I found while driving her around to activities.

With this information and the Big List I then went to the websites of schools and printed important info. Sometimes she would ask me to look into a school and sometimes I would recommend one to her. Once again, she would review these files while in the car.

We then met with a friend in the business and discussed which schools my D was most interested in. On advice gathered from this meeting she then added/dropped schools. Try talking to people you know who are actors/directors/involved with local theater. Also, many people here at CC have very good advice.

The MOST important thing to remember is- what is a great school for one person might not be a great school for you. Take into consideration what type of actor/actress you are and don't look at a school just because you have heard of it/it is one of the "top" schools/your friends are applying there/your friends went there/all the actors on broadway went there.

This research method might not work for you, but I hope that it gives you a place to start. Good Luck!

I had to go to a meeting but am back and so I thought i would provide you with the link to an existing thread called Current Musical Theater College Students and Parents Share Experiences, as I mentioned earlier this morning:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/musical-theater-major/231354-current-musical-theater-college-students-parents-share-experiences.html?highlight=Current+STudents+Parents+Share+Experiences

Again, ALSO read about personal accounts in each school's sub forum (found at the top of the MT Forum).

If you can, visit the schools and talk to CURRENT students. It is quite important to do that as opposed to hearsay from those who do NOT attend these particular schools. Further, as the parent above so wisely advised, don't put too much stock in what any ONE person says of their experiences as yours may be very different if you were to attend. It is preferable to garner MANY perspectives about a particular school. So, start reading up on the MT Forum and then contact people to learn more. There are likely even facebook groups for each program where you could contact current students directly. You could call a program and ask if any current students are willing to be contacted.
