For my Personal Statement, would it be too much to include details about my Dad's drug abuse?

I went to community college for a year, took a break because I wasn't motivated and also had a lot to deal with at home, my once strict and well put together dad got addicted to drugs after getting laid off. It was a lot to deal with because he went crazy.

---> (((Anyways, during the break I went backpacking/traveled in Japan and I want to include those two things in my personal statement. Would including details (like what kind of drugs, a short story) about my dad's drug usage be too much? Should I just mention that he was but not include the details?))) <---

My GPA is at a 3.7 right now, but I have a bad GPA from my first year at community college so I really need my personal statement to make an impact.

(Here is a nice mix for you guys:

If you include details, you should claim ultimate responsibility for your “bad GPA.” You don’t want to look like you are shirking blame.

Right, good point. Thank you :)
