For those of you who are OOS students at UNC Chapel Hill, how much are you paying roughly per year? How much aid is UNC-CH giving you?

Housing + Tuition + Insurance + misc. fees = ~35k/annum. This does not include my meal plan, living expenses, and more expensive stuff like books.

Damn : / No financial aid/grants/anything?

Ah no, I’m an international student so I’m not eligible for any of that. I’ve heard UNC’s pretty good with aid though.

Oh gotcha; I’m from California. That’s somewhat reassuring. $35,000 is probably not affordable for me :P

Closer to 40. D:

Jesus, that’s like a 1/3 of my parents combined salary in a year. Way too much. Any idea what the average aid is? I REALLY want to go to UNC.

I don’t know, but I can point you to threads that may be of interest to you:

Note: Information may differ for transfer students. I don’t know.

Appreciate the links!

I pay around 40k per year… and yes, it’s freaking crazy.

OOS FinAid is a little different for us international students since you guys can get grants and scholarships from the government and other organizations. This stupid green passport prevents me from getting anything. Anyone wants to trade for a nice blue one? ;)

Scholarships are extremely few & extremely competitive. I think they only offered 100 s’ships in this incoming class of nearly 5K.

@Mr Wheezy: Yikes, that’s a lot Sorry to hear that!

@mommydeerest: Yeah, that’s what I heard. But as far as financial aid, it looks like UNC meets 100% of need. Arond 35% in loans, the rest in grants. May be wrong though.

They also have the Carolina Covenant. If your family income is below a certain amount based on family size, (other things?) – you get all need based aid scholarships and no loans. Also usually a laptop and money for summer school. It is pretty baller…

Cool cool. I don’t think I’d qualify for that. My EFC is around 15,000.
