Recently Kiplinger.com released its 2009 ranking for BEST VALUES among public universities. They did rankings for in-state and out-of-state. For students looking at attending an OOS university (and particularly a highly ranked one), the matter of cost and value can be very important in comparing to an IS option. Thus, there may be real value for some students at schools that are ranked highly by Kiplingers.

The following schools represent Kiplinger’s Top 25 Best Values for public universities. On this list, I have starred the eight prominent publics that also are ranked in the Top 50 National Universities by USNWR.

I have created other threads for Private National Universities and Private LACs. One notable difference in the colleges found on Top 25 BEST VALUE results for the privates (national and LAC) is that these Best Value colleges were also near universally ranked in the USWNR Top 50. That is clearly not the case with the Top 25 Publics, of which only 8 of the top 25 were recognized at this level.
