Is there a limit to the number of colleges that can be applied to through the CA with the waiver, or is it as many schools as the student has on the CA? Our GC feels that the limit is 4, just like the CB or NACAC waivers, but I really think he is wrong. At the beginning of the CA it asks if you qualify for a waiver, and once you select yes, and the qualifying criteria it carries through to all of the schools. When submitting the applications, it doesn't ask for payment, it just automatically submits. Then apparently the GC has to send a confirmation to the schools that the student qualifies. Our GC hasn't sent any of the confirmations because he says S has to pick 4. I can't find anything in writing that stipulates a limit one way or the other, and although I emailed CA, I have not heard back. It seems like if there was a limit, S wouldn't have been allowed to submit more than 4 applications without payment, or there would have been an option at submission that would have asked if he wished to use the waiver for that particular school. Meanwhile, all apps are in limbo at the schools.

4 is correct.

@coolweather Thanks, but not California, Common Application.

Oops! Californians think CA means California.

There isn’t a limit. https://appsupport.commonapp.org/link/portal/33011/33013/Article/758/Common-App-Fee-Waiver

@OHMomof2 Thank you. Unfortunately those are the exact two sites that I got my information from. Neither make any reference to a number, so I have nothing to provide him with to refute the 4 limit that he believes to be true. And Common App doesn’t respond…

Hmm. Maybe you can just have him go ahead…when the GC does his thing for the CA I’m pretty sure it goes automatically to all of the schools on the CA. Why not let him “do 4” and see what happens?

If that won’t work, are there more than 12 schools? You can go around the issue with 4 NACAC waivers, 4 SAT-based waivers and 4 CB “Realize your college potential” waivers.

I do think the language is pretty clear: “you may apply to ANY Common App college without a fee.”

I think that is what I will do, just tell him to go ahead and submit 4 and surprise maybe a 5th one will go through, lol. I will tell him I will be responsible it doesn’t work. And yes, we still have the 4 CB waivers, but again, it seems pretty clear that those are really only for needed for NON CA schools now.

Let us know how it goes?
