i was actually wondering about harvard specifically, but if you go to a school in boston area please leave feedback also.

if you go to a college where you dont need a car on campus and you live in let's say new jersey, how do you go back and forth during holidays and stuff? do you take the train or do your parents drive to pick you up? or do most students end up bringing their own cars

Sometimes my parents have picked me up and sometimes I've taken Amtrak. The trains can be a bit of a hassle if you have a lot of stuff with you, and they're pretty expensive even with AAA discount.

A lot of people who live in NY/NJ take the train, and many others fly.

Most people don't bring their own cars (at least at MIT, and I assume it's similar at Harvard). Parking is scarce and expensive in Boston and Cambridge, and it's rarely worth the hassle to keep a car up here.
